Members of the Cowboys' front office reportedly believe it's time to "rid themselves" of LCB Terence Newman.
Newman is entering his age-33 season with an $8M non-guaranteed salary, and in coverage was Pro Football Focus' 93rd-rated corner out of 100 who qualified with enough playing time in 2010. The Cowboys can keep Newman on the roster into the summer, but figure to cut ties if they emerge from the draft with a viable replacement. Patrick Peterson is rumored to be No. 1 on their board.

The Washington Redskins swooped in to take safety O.J. Atogwe away from the Rams with a 5-year deal for $26 million that includes $13 million in guaranteed funds. This doesn't necessarily mean the Rams made a mistake by not matching or topping the offer. I say that because the Redskins have an obvious and fairly comical history of making crazy impulse purchases in the free-agent market. Many of Daniel Snyder's free-agent sprees have ended in a lot of embarrassing headlines and wasted money.

I think thats a good deal not over paying not under paying 5 years at 26 very responsible deal (thank god there is always a first )

SI's Jim Trotter reports that CBA discussions have been extended seven days, not the originally reported ten.
It's hard to imagine there being a big difference. Optimism remains that the sides can strike an agreement within two weeks at the latest, and another extension is always a possibility if no deal is finalized in that seven-day window. To reiterate, no roster moves can be made during the extension. Free agency could occur before the April's draft if a CBA is done this month.

Weddle is a free agent and like Huff, one of the more coveted ones, so the signing of Sanders probably means Weddle is moving on, hopefully to us.

In my perfect world Buffalo will draft him, but I fear you are right. There's a strong possibility he won't be on the board anymore at pick #3.

I know how you feel, I was stressing hardcore yesterday when it appeared a lockout was imminent. They need to get a deal done soon! I can't go without any kind of football! Even if it would just be part of training camp!

The Lingerie Football League (LFL) is eager to cash in on a possible NFL lockout, with officials announcing Wednesday it is considering moving its games from Friday nights to Sunday afternoons if the national league's season is delayed or suspended, WKYC-TV reported.


NFL owners emerged from a day-long session of mediated labor talks with the NFL Players Association on Wednesday and said no definitive decision had been made on whether to lock out the players, FOX Sports reported.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the two sides expires at midnight ET on Thursday.

The LFL, a seven-on-seven league played by scantily-clad women, has expanded with three more franchises for its third season -- the Las Vegas Sin, Cleveland Crush and Green Bay Chill.

Three-time Pro Bowler Bob Golic, the Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the Crush, said the league had "truly gained a lot of credibility both on and off-the-field over the past couple of seasons."

In November, it was announced that Oklahoma City would also be receiving an expansion franchise for the upcoming season, only for the city's mayor, Mick Cornett, to publicly reject it, saying it would cause unnecessary issues for the area.

"There are too many problems to list," Cornett said. "There are so many that I don't want to gravitate to just one."

That doesn't appear to be the case anymore, his stock isn't as high as it was prior to the combine. Gabbert is probably a very realistic possibility though. I still personally would prefer defense though.

According to two league sources spoken to by the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers are "not sold" on drafting a defensive lineman with the No. 1 pick in the draft.
They are reportedly concerned about the health of many of the draft's top defensive lineman, and are set to take "long looks" at both Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert. Observer writer Joseph Person speculates they may even consider LSU CB Patrick Peterson. Although the Panthers have a huge need along their defensive line, they are most concerned with landing an impact player. Newton, Gabbert and Peterson would all fit that bill if Carolina decides there's no lineman worth taking first overall.

I'm sorry but there are no QB's in this year's draft worth a top-5 pick, maybe even top-10, much less #1 overall. Gabbert is probably the best of the bunch but does anyone really see superstar in that guy? I sure don't.
