The union decertified, I guess the NFLPA is a separate entity from the union.

The NFLPA still exists, but instead of being a union it is a trade organization. Now the NFLPA can't negotiate on behalf of the players, and instead a labor lawyer must negotiate on their behalf. The decertification is all a sham, they are still a union in reality, they just needed to decertify for legal reasons.

The NFLPA requesting players skip the draft really annoys me. This is completely self-serving and only hurts the draftees. Now the top picks will have to have their own parties rather than take the stage in front of thousands of people. It also hurts the draftees in terms of exposure. The more positive exposure these players get the more valuable they are for marketing opportunities. This was a case for the players to get seen (without a helmet covering their faces) by millions of people. This move doesn't hurt the NFL, people don't watch the draft to listen to the draftees, they watch to see who teams select. I hope the players choose to go to the draft. They are not members of the NFLPA yet and even if they were the NFLPA has never had the authority to tell players where they can and can't go.

Sports in general are built on foundations that the fans establish the world didn't end in the NBA when Jordan left it won't when Kobe leaves. I don't get why the stupid PA doesn't get it while its great to see the greatest players play, THERE WILL BE NEW ONES, and its a never ending cycle.

PA's main issue should be helping players get lives after football, helping restructure rookie wage scales to benefit players who actually preformed, and making sure when people no longer care about a player be it Tom Brady or HB Blades that either one can get the best possible health care from injuries related to the sport... Not how much they can tack onto salaries.

An NFLPA source tells ESPN's Adam Schefter that there's "no chance" players and owners would have CBA negotiations before the April 6 due date for Judge Susan Nelson to rule on the validity of the lockout.
The three-week window between now and April 6 will apparently be a dead time across the league. It would normally be filled with signings, trades, and rumors. We're just hoping it changes places with the usual dead time in late May and June, and that free agency takes place then. The order would be out of whack, but at least that way the usual offseason events could all occur.

See, that's why I like the NFL over the other major sports. It's about the teams and not the players. In the NBA guys like Jordan and Kobe ARE bigger than the game. One or two guys can win a franchise many championships. In the NFL it's about the teams. The players are always secondary. Brett Favre was one of the better QB's of all-time and how long did it take Green Bay fans to get over his departure, like 10 seconds? That's always annoyed me about the NBA, people seem to root for the players rather than the teams. The 90's were just ridiculous with how many drones mindlessly rooted for the Bulls because of Jordan. Most of those people couldn't even name a Bulls player other than Jordan and Pippen.

Mike Holmgren confirmed the Browns are interested in Cam Newton and plan on having a private workout with him. Teams are allowed 30 private workouts, and I can't imagine this is anything more than a smokescreen. I just don't believe that the Browns, who have a plethora of needs, would give up on promising quarterback Colt McCoy this quick. I'm guessing they are showing interest in Newton to try and get a team like the 49ers, Titans, or Redskins to trade up if Newton is still available when the Browns pick.

I hope they never win if they take him COLT MCCOY FOREVER!!! kid was outstanding with the group he had to work with.

That being said I hope we get laughed at if we moved to take him when every knowledgeable person says they wouldn't even take him in the first round.

I wouldn't be surprised if they pick him and then trade him or McCoy. You never know with the Browns.

Sold. I'd take McCoy here even though if he thought his shoulder got hurt in that championship game wait till he has the right side of our line blocking.

Ya, I don't think Holmgren would be foolish enough to actually draft Newton. And I do think Coly McCoy has the potential to be a very solid NFL starting QB anyway. Cleveland has many other needs outside of the QB position to draft for.
