People on NFL Network like Willie McGinest talk about the picks after they have been made, and even some of those guys don't seem to understand that this is for 2011, even with the banner behind them that clearly says "Top 100 Players of 2011". It's a dumb list. I wouldn't be surprised if Manning is #1.

I know Ed Reed and Ray Lewis are the remaining Ravens that will be in the top 10. I do love Ray Lewis, but he is no longer a top 10 player in the league.
Ed Reed top 10, really? I do not hear or watch much about Ed anymore but I guess that is because I rarely get Raven games here, is Ed still playing at a elite level? He was a great safety back then but have not heard much from him since....

He lead the league in INT's last year and had 6 less games to do it (missed the first 6 with injury). He's a great player and hasn't really slowed down at all.

if they were "smart" they will announced it by Wednesday or Thursday and start FA next Monday because for 3 days there's no baseball they would own ESPN for them 3 days

Wont happen as they already have the schedule planned for this week.

Tue/wed = only key peeps (goodell, smith, lawyers).
Thu/fri = owners/players come in too.

The NFLPA needs to boot the lawyers. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has been saying for weeks that the lawyers are derailing the process, and over the weekend Mike Freeman of CBS Sports had an article saying the same thing. From the sounds of it the lawyers don't want a settlement and want to take this lockout to trial even if it means missing a whole season because they believe if this case goes to a trial the NFLPA will win and collect billions of dollars and partial ownership of the league. In past labor negotiations former union head Gene Upshaw would kick the lawyers out if they weren't helping get a deal done, but so far De Smith hasn't followed suit even though the lawyers are hurting the process.

If the lawyers are controlling the case, that's the NFLPA's problem. Lawyers don't get to say yes or no to settlement offers - clients do.

According to Chris Mortensen the only people negotiating today are the lawyers, and Goodell and Smith won't return until Thursday. Neither side is showing much urgency considering that for every missed week of preseason games there's a $200 million loss, which hurts the players just as much as the owners since the salary cap is based on the revenue the league receives and missed preseason games will result in less revenue and thus a lower cap (and floor).

I think theyre just targeting having a deal by july 15 so even at the slow pace they seem to be going they should still make that date.

& if they dont then talking 24/7 wouldnt get them there anyways either because that would mean they are at a point where both sides just are not giving in on certain points no matter how much they yap.

There is a rumour that a redskins scource is hearing the lockout will end july 10.

O M F G I hope to God that's true. I mean we're not actually missing any football. It's just the fact that we don't know for certain whether there will be football as normal. This is about the time of year I get serious football withdrawals. About a month before the HOF game which I super hype up myself. At this point, it's football, you know?

Could you imagine the ratings if the NFL aired the labor negotiations on live TV? Hell, the boring draft combine even gets great ratings. This thing would be huge televised.

It sounds like the CBA may be near and both sides are willing to work through the weekend to get it done. The mediator leaves Saturday for vacation and he could be a key force in getting the settlement pushed through the court quickly so they really need to get things done while he's still there. Hopefully they reach a lockout this weekend, get everything finalized by July 15, and then have free agency for a week prior to the start of the first camps. I also hope they've got a rookie wage scale in place like the NBA that will virtually eliminate holdouts and get rookies in camp on time.

I wish they would focus on important issues rather than dumb things like the league wanting teams to have the right to match contracts for three of their free agents. This makes no sense and is pointless. A team could just sign a player to a poison pill contract (aka having something in the contract that is impossible for the current team to match) and teams don't deserve the chance to match contracts. If the players are that important they should have signed them to extensions.
