One day after informing Shaun O'Hara that they will be parting ways, the New York Giants appear to have found another center.

The Giants agreed to terms with David Baas, according a league source.

The 6-foot-4, 330-pound Baas started at center and left and right guard in six seasons for the San Francisco 49ers. The 29-year-old was the starting center last season, his first at that position.

He started 24 games at left guard in 2008 and 2009; before that, he made 13 starts at right guard.

The move was first reported by the Sacramento Bee.

The Giants need offensive linemen. They are expected to release O'Hara, guard Rich Seubert and left tackle Shawn Andrews later this week.

The Giants have been trying to get under the salary cap so they can re-sign some of their own free agents, such as running back Ahmad Bradshaw, defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka, wide receiver Steve Smith and tight end Kevin Boss.

Ohm Youngmisuk covers the Giants for ESPNNewYork.com.

Also doesn't mean much because a lot of teams change between good, bad, and average every year due to injuries and whatever else. It only takes 1 injury to change a teams playoff hopes, just ask the Steelers. Nobody is really a lock to be good every year except maybe the Patriots. Even when Brady went down for basically the entire season, the Pats were still a playoff team. I would say the Colts also, but I can't imagine the Colts making the playoffs if Manning were to miss a significant amount of time.

def....look @ the freakin' lions. going from 0 wins to 6 in 1 year.

if u have the talent @ a position, if your starter goes down, the back up should be able to step in and make plays....it all comes down to coaching.....that's the biggest thing.

Jets are going to be real scary if they get Asomugha. They probably won't be able to resign Braylon Edwards but I could see Randy Moss as a cheaper pickup. Holmes, Moss, Cotchery is a solid WR corps.

I dunno, I think if say Aaron Rodgers got hurt it would damage your team a lot, even with your great defense and incredible receiving corp. Matt Flynn is all right but he's the back-up for a reason, even if other teams were sniffing around for him a bit.

u never know....look @ what he did against the patriots last year. he has some talent. and if the coaching staff can put a plan together to take advantage of his strenghts....anything can happen....just like it almost did that game.

I really wanted Weddle but I guess the Chargers weren't going to let him go.

Chargers agreed to terms with FS Eric Weddle on a five-year, $50 million contract with $19 million guaranteed.
It's the richest contract for a safety in league history. Though Chargers fans haven't been satisfied with Weddle's turnover rates -- he has six interceptions in four seasons -- he's arguably the best run-support free safety in football and not usually a liability in pass coverage. San Diego has an extremely good-looking secondary on paper with Weddle and Bob Sanders "inside," and Antoine Cason and Quentin Jammer on the corners. Now, they need to generate a better pass rush.

Oh and the Browns cut Jake Delhomme.

I know a lot of people are shocked at this deal, but I think he still has a lot of untapped potential. 10 1/2 sacks in his first starting year when he was getting double teamed the entire game. If the Panthers get some decent players on the rest of the defensive line this guy could be a monster.

NFL Network is reporting that Frank Gore wants a new contract and has elected to hold out of training camp.
ESPN's Adam Schefter has confirmed the report. Like DeAngelo Williams, Gore is 28 years old. It's not difficult to imagine Gore targeting even more than Williams, considering he's been a much more effective player over the past two seasons. Gore and his agent -- Drew Rosenhaus -- also realize the 49ers are heavily counting on the running game with Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick listed 1-2 on one of the league's worst quarterback depth charts.

Gore's been carrying that offense ever since he came into the league, they haven't had a consistent QB since Jeff Garcia moved on.

I just checked his stats from a season ago. 853 yards, 203 carries, 4.2 avg, and 3 TD's. That's pretty low, but then that offense struggled in the QB position alternating their QB's.

I hope the NFC West is up for grabs again this year.
