Still doesn't make it right.

Glad they are looking into the pot issue. Penalties shouldn't be this harsh. States are starting to make it legal so it only makes sense for the NFL to review the issues

Exactly. I was just reading about a kid who was arrested for having 1.5 lbs of MJ in Texas and faces 5 to life. Talk about excessive and archaic.

5 to life and yet their are people out there that get probation for things like rape (and what Rice did)

In 5 or so years PLENTY of states will be following what Colorado is doing. Players are going to smoke anyways. They always have. But the NFL needs to evolve just like the states are on a drug that kills 0 people a year.

I get what rice did was outside of the NFL...but it should still carry a penalty of some sort.

The NFL rules are beyond laughable. Goodell loves to blabber on about the "image" of the NFL. But which is a bigger public embarrassment for the NFL a player knocking his fiancee unconscious or a player smoking weed? For Goodell it's the latter. Great priorities.

WTF was he doing with 1.5 lbs of pot? I'm open to discussing laws but he knew the penalties if he was caught, or at least should have.

You may have a point, if the NFL doesn't do anything now. I like the approach of letting the due process and proceed and then make a decision on punishment.

5 to life is ridiculous for any non-violent crime.

Maybe, but don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Also disagree, I think large scale financial crimes should receive VERY heavy penalties. Jordan Belfort should have received Life IMO fro all the lives he damaged.

Oh yeah colloquialisms!!! That argues a point sufficiently lol . Seriously though 5 to life for possession of a medicinal plant is absolutely ridiculous.

It's not like he got a big sentence from using it, he was distributing it... whether or not you think the sentence is just, he was dealing a large amount of controlled substances. It sure sounds like you indulge in it as this topic seems to mean a great deal to you.

I've actually never heard of a sentence of 5 to life... I'm sure with good behavior he can get out much earlier than that. Seems like a strange sentence for a judge to issue, and if it is as unfair as you seem to make it out to be there is always the appeals process.

Way to make incorrect statements

I'm a MS4, so sure it is a big deal to me just as any other medicinal substance. I don't indulge in it because I have more important things to do than get stoned. You just don't seem to get it do you. That's ok. I'll leave it here.

It wasn't... I know my team.

Everything I said is accurate. I can find plenty more examples. That was just an example off the top of my head.

MS4? I have no idea what that means... I googled it and got a bunch of hits talking about stormwater..

Should pot be legalized? Sure... I'm certainly not opposed. I've smoked it in the past and probably will in the future. But I won't carry a frickin' pound and a half with me. But as the laws are they are now you have to be a moron to carry that much on you and not expect dire consequences if you get caught.

And what "incorrect statements" did I make? If I did so I'd be more than happy to admit and retract them.

While it has medicinal properties such as reliving symptoms of Glaucoma and assisting in helping relive multiple issues of those dealing with MS unless things have changed sadly it is not officially recognized as a treatment by the medical boards. The Texas teen was distributing it which is an entirely different argument as I am unsure if Texas has legalized the use of Marijuana for recreational use or medical uses.

Medical student year 4 = MS4. I don't indulge in it. That's the incorrect statement .

I'm not saying the kid shouldn't go to jail. What I'm saying is the possible sentence of 5 to life is grossly ridiculous for marijuana. That's all.

I'm well aware of the AMA's stance on it. I don't agree with them, but a lot of those individuals are shall we say deeply motivated by the pharmaceutical companies. More research into the medicinal properties needs to be done because for the longest time the American government only granted research purposes for the abuse of it and the negative effects it has on people's lives. Obviously more private research has been conducted, but it would pale in comparison if the NIH granted money to conduct more medicinal research.

What can I say? I'm a glutton for punishment. At least I have the Yankees and now the Rangers to keep me happy
