I can't see Rodgers being able to last a season as a starting RB. He is awful small and I think if he was getting 20-25 touches a game he'd get hurt pretty quick. Rodgers strikes me as a good complimentary back but someone that couldn't be a #1.

They know the fans might complain and say they aren't going to watch anymore but the reality is nobody is going to stop watching because of poor officiating. The biggest sticking point isn't even money, it's that the NFL wants to hire more refs and have the ability to bench refs if they are graded poorly and the refs are firmly against this. Either the refs are going to cave or we'll have the replacements for the rest of the year.

It's to the point that I wouldn't be surprised if LeSean McCoy were telling the truth about what a replacement ref said to him. These refs seem starstruck just being on an NFL field and around NFL players.

The troubles with the replacement referees continue to mount. In a recent interview, Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy recounted two mildly disturbing tales about replacement referees this season. From CBS Philly:

“During the game, they made like a bad call or something, the ref, and I see Ray Lewis like pump his chest up, trying to scare him,” LeSean McCoy told 94WIP’s Anthony Gargano and Ike Reese on the 94WIP Player’s Lounge on Monday. “Don’t you know [the ref] started stuttering? I’m like ‘what’s this?!’”

In the referee’s defense, it’s Ray Lewis. He (allegedly!) killed a guy! Still, he should stand up for himself and walk away. Now for another tale of possible partiality.

“They’re like fans, kind of though,” McCoy said. “I’ll be honest, they’re like fans. One of the refs was talking about his fantasy team, like ‘McCoy, come on, I need you for my fantasy,’ ahhh, what?!”

I have LeSean on my fantasy team too. And so do a lot of NFL players. Still, professionalism and whatnot. Its clear that the replacement referees are not conducting themselves in a manner that players or coaches can or will respect. That is a problem.

He's short, but he has some weight and power behind him. He's 3 inches smaller, but bigger than Warrick Dunn. And Dunn managed to make a career out of it. Rodgers also never had a problem in college.

President of NFL Films Steve Sabol dies

The football world says goodbye to a legend of the sport on Tuesday. Steve Sabol, President of NFL Films, has died just weeks away from 70th birthday after an 18 month battle with brain cancer.

Sabol took over the mantle of NFL Films President in 1985 from his father Ed, who founded the company. Steve learned in March of 2011 that he had a brain tumor that can't be removed. He introduced his father during Ed's emotional enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August of 2011. Sabol is survived by his wife, Penny, his son Casey, his parents Audrey and Ed, and his sister Blair.

"Steve was the creative genius behind NFL Films' remarkable work," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday in an email to NFL personnel. "Steve's passion for football was matched only by his talent and energy. He was a major contributor to the success of the NFL, a man who changed the way we looked at football and sports, and a great friend. His legacy is assured.

"Steve was an incredible visionary. He spent 50 years at the NFL and changed the way we see pro football. So when you're watching the games this week, it's worth remembering just how much Steve contributed to the way we think, see, and love our game."

Generations of NFL fans learned to love the game of football through the lens of Ed and Steve Sabol. Steve started out as a cameraman for the company before eventually running the company.

"We all realized pretty quickly that Steve was the force behind what we were doing here," the NFL Films' head of cinematography Hank McElwee head of cinematography said this year. "The pictures. Big Ed had the idea and he sold the owners on it, but when it came to the actual vision of this company, without a doubt it was Steve. Steve saw things in a unique way that every network is copying right now."

Steve Sabol won over 40 Emmy awards and oversaw 107 Emmys for NFL Films. He was the Sporting News 2002' "Sports Executive of the Year." He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003. The company broke ground as the first to wire players and coaches for sound. It revolutionized how music was used with sports films. It was the first to use ground-level slow motion and montage editing in sports. So much of what we see in sports television came directly from the Sabols. He straddled the line between artist and executive.

NFL Films was a family company in the truest sense. That's why it feels like the NFL is losing a member of its family today. Sabol and his father spent their lives glorifying the game.

"My dad has a great expression," Sabol said when his father's induction was announced. "Tell me a fact, and I'll learn. Tell me a truth and I'll believe. But tell me a story and it will live in my heart forever. And now my Dad's story will be in Canton and hopefully that will live forever too."

The story of the NFL can't be told without Steve Sabol. May he rest in peace.

He was a huge salesman for the NFL. RIP, Steve. As a kid, I remember loving see him introduce NFL Sunday Ticket every Sunday. I'll keep his family and friends in my prayers.

Good news for the NFL. The problem of DUI's might finally be nearing a solution - autonomous cars! Then again players are probably dumb enough to still drive drunk manually even if they had these cars... Jags need to get one of these for Justin Blackmon ASAP.

The timeline for autonomous cars hitting the road en masse keeps getting closer. GM's Cadillac division expects to produce partially autonomous cars at a large scale by 2015, and the automaker also predicts it will have fully autonomous cars available by the end of the decade. Audi and BMW have also shown self-driving car concepts, with the former working with Stanford to pilot a modified TT up Pikes Peak. Meanwhile, Google is ripping along at its own rapid pace with a fleet of fully autonomous Toyota Prius hybrids that have logged over 300,000 miles. And the company has pushed through legislation that legalizes self-driving cars in Nevada. California is close behind, and Google has also been busy lobbying joyriding lawmakers in Washington, D.C.

My all-time fave "NFL Films" piece was on the toughest, meanest and Greatest Middle Linebacker, EVER.....Dick Butkus. John Facenda does the narration and his description of Butkus is legendary....."He was Mobey Dick in a gold fish bowl".

This really pisses me off!!

How can this douche bag say Rodgers isn’t a leader?? Just b/c he laid into Jones Thursday night for breaking off a route when he shouldn’t have?? Had Jones run that route the way he was supposed to, it would’ve been a completion and not an INT….and Rodgers knows that!!!

If Rodgers isn’t a leader b/c of this, Manning (Peyton) and Brady aren’t leaders either b/c I’ve seen them rip their players for doing something wrong numerous times!!!

While Aaron Rodgers leadership was being questioned by one prominent NFL agent, the Green Bay Packers quarterback was apologizing to one of his teammates for publicly admonishing him in Thursday’s win over the Chicago Bears.

To receiver James Jones, who was the target of Rodgers’ frustration after a miscommunication between the two resulted in an interception against the Bears, all of it was unnecessary.

“He apologized, said he’s sorry for showing his emotions,” Jones said Tuesday. “But I was like, ‘ain’t no need to apologize. We’re trying to win. I messed up. Frustration happens. It’s all good. No love lost. We’re teammates. We’re like family in here. Like I said, everybody’s trying to win.”

Video of Rodgers chastising Jones didn’t receive the wide-spread airplay that Bears quarterback Jay Cutler got for berating his left tackle, J’Marcus Webb, in the same game. Cutler went after Webb for allowing Clay Matthews to beat him for a sack and at one point bumped him. While Cutler received wide-spread criticism for the incident, most observers gave Rodgers a free pass.

Not Blake Baratz, an agent who represents Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop and tight end Jermichael Finley.

On Twitter, Baratz listed quarterbacks Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Tom Brady as strong leaders and said there’s a drop off from them to next best quarterbacks in the league and added that “Cutler doesn’t get it.”

When asked by a Twitter follower why Rodgers wasn’t on Baratz’s leadership list, he replied: “ARod is a great QB, he isn’t a great leader. There’s a major difference. Leaders take the blame & make every1 better. He doesn’t.”

Bradshaw officially out

Ahmad Bradshaw (neck) has been ruled out of Thursday's game against the Panthers.

We still don't have an exact diagnosis or timetable on Bradshaw, leaving him day to day. In the meantime, Andre Brown is expected to start and handle a full workload on Thursday night. He's a three-down back that will get what's blocked and serve as the goal-line option. Rookie David Wilson will try to work his way out of the doghouse by putting in a good performance as the change-of-pace option. Consider Brown a solid flex start this week and Wilson the superior long-term option.

Giants are really banged up this week. In addition to the aforementioned Ahmad Bradshaw the Giants will also be without receiver Hakeem Nicks, offensive lineman David Diehl, receiver Domenik Hixon and defensive end Adewale Ojomo. Nicks was listed as questionable earlier today on the injury report but he didn't make the trip to Carolina.
