Marc Bulger has decided to retire. Bulger spent last year as the Ravens backup and had offers from multiple teams but decided to retire. This leaves the Ravens in a bit of a bind because their only quarterback behind Joe Flacco is sixth-round rookie Tyrod Taylor, a player many believe is more suited to play receiver in the NFL, although early reports are Taylor has been impressive in camp. I would expect them to find a veteran to backup Flacco before the season starts, although there aren't many quarterbacks unsigned at this point.

I could see them giving up a 4th or 5th round pick for Orton. And I would like to see that.

The Broncos want at least a third-round pick for Orton, and from the sounds of it he's badly outplayed Tebow in camp and it will be tough to not start Orton. The players are firmly on Orton's side and he has taken all the first team reps in camp. I also don't know if the Ravens have the cap room for Orton, who is due $7.3 million this year (in addition to a $1.5 million bonus the Broncos have already paid).

I could not see that at all and I would be very disappointed if they did. Ozzie can do better with that pick in the draft.

I believe Troy Smith is still a free agent. He already knows the offense and wouldn't cost nearly as much money as Orton, not to mention the draft pick lost. They don't need to give up a draft pick for a backup. I'm sure they can find someone cheap to hold the clipboard.

That is too bad, Marc had a decent career with the Rams, I wish him the best of luck in his retirement

The Broncos are not going to trade Kyle Orton and he will be their starting quarterback, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
And with that, the Tim Tebow hype machine comes to a screeching halt. Schefter knows the Broncos better than anyone after serving as a beat writer there and is unlikely to be bluffed by their front office. It appears that the deal with the Dolphins truly is dead. Upgrade Brandon Lloyd and Eddie Royal a notch as Orton is a far superior passer than Tebow.

Picked up Lloyd as a free agent last year, may have to get him in the second or third round this year.

Steelers player rep Ryan Clark says the new CBA may not be ratified by tomorrow as planned because the NFL won't budge on Roger Goodell's disciplinary power. Veterans who signed new contracts with teams can't practice until the CBA is ratified, so this could cause further delays for recently-signed free agents to practice with their teams.

Kenyon Coleman, Marcus Spears and Jason Hatcher are running sprints right now while the rest of the team is practicing, not happy to hear about possible further delays.

I read that Ronnie Brown's contract with the Eagles is for one-year, $1 million. I'm shocked all he got was $1 million. Brown isn't a franchise back and has had some injuries but he's a very good complimentary piece that should get close to 1,000 total yards. I'm curious if he took a discount to join the Eagles or if that's all he was being offered.

He's a Bears fan, but all championship teams get invited to the White House. It's been a tradition for a long time.

I'm shocked also. He will turn 30 during the season and has had injury issues, you would think he would take all the money he could get now. If I were running a front office with a need at RB, I definitely would have payed him more than that. The Ravens should have picked him up at that price. They need a running back with McGahee gone. There are still a few backs left though.

Some of the top remaining backs....
Ricky Williams
Jason Snelling
Jerome Harrison
Cadillac Williams (possibly signing with Rams)
Laurence Maroney
Kevin Smith (not the director )

The Giants informed Osi Umenyiora and his agent Wednesday that they are no longer permitted to seek a trade partner.
Umenyiora's agent was unable to find a team willing to pay the Giants' asking price, which was reportedly still a first-round pick despite a Baltimore Sun report to the contrary. The Giants hope this decision "nips the distraction in the bud," though it could have the opposite effect. Umenyiora has made it clear that he wants a trade or the long-term extension that was promised.

Rest in peace Bubba Smith! What interested me about Bubba is that he never wore his Superbowl ring because he said that the Baltimore Colts-Dallas Cowboys Superbowl is a sloppy game! He was awesome in Police Academy too! He will be missed!

He's a Bears fan and a fan of most Chicago sports teams. You might be thinking he's a Steelers fan because the Steelers owner was a strong supporter of the President's 2008 campaign and later became Obama's Ambassador to Ireland. Though it should be noted the Rooney family are actually republicans.
