Brady making his case for MVP, 24 passing and 3 rushing TD and just 3 total turnovers in 11 games. The other guys have double or triple as many turnovers.

and lol what Fireman Ed apparently left the game at halftime and then deleted his twitter account

If either Luck or Rg3 gets their team to the playoffs that deserves MVP because of how awful their teams are around them... I'm not so sure they couldn't put those numbers up with that Pats team.

My vote would go to RG III as well but I don't think a rookie has ever won it. Still say he's the best rookie QB and will be one of the top 3 QBs in the league eventually.

League's explanation for the challenge rule:

Quote:
Dean Blandino, the NFL's director of instant replay:

"The rule was put in place really to prevent a team in a challenge situation from creating a delay. They're thinking about challenging the play, they commit a foul, jump offside, false start, now they've given themselves more time to make that decision.

"So we tell our coaches, 'Don't throw the flag.' Our officials should get to the sideline, explain to them that the play is not challengeable, and then the replay official is looking at it and he will stop the game and look at it if he deems that it needs to be stopped."
Wait...WHAT? How can you possibly be delaying the game by requesting a review that is going to happen anyway?

The more I hear about this rule, the dumber it is.

I get that they don't want people to delay the game by committing an intentional penalty, but how that can apply in this case is utterly beyond me.

The NFL's gone nuts with these ill-conceived rules that punish too many of the innocent and do very little about the problem they're trying to solve. You wanna punish the coach for throwing the challenge flag? Fine. Go ahead and assess a 15-yard penalty but for Pete's sake do the frickin' review and get the call right.

as dumb as the rule is that you get a 15 yd. penalty AND the play is no longer reviewable, by now every coach should know that scoring plays are reviewed, so what's the point of throwing the challenge flag? just flag down a ref if the kicker starts running out there and make sure they're reviewing it / did review it.

That's my take as well. Any football fan worth their salt knows that all scoring plays and turnovers are automatically looked at.

Except noone here is realizing the flag was thrown BEFORE the runner got into the end zone, as soon as the runner got up to continue running he threw the flag when everyone on the field stopped but the runner. At the time the flag was thrown it was not a scoring play, was he stupid for throwing while the play was still ongoing yeah but shit happens when your emotions get the best of you.

The rule is obviously terrible. But as a head coach he should have none a lot better. The whistle never blew, and the play was ongoing.

It's like the "tuck" rule that helped start the Patriots dynasty. It was the correct interpretation of a terrible rule. The NFL has really taken leave of their senses.

I have no problem with the New England Patriots wanting to score more points when they are up 27 to 3 or 35 to 7. The players on the New England Patriots offense gets paid a lot of money to score points. The players on an NFL defense gets paid a lot of money to stop an NFL offense from getting points. Also people could look at it this way. The New England Patriots want to make sure they win the game because this is the NFL and all the NFL teams are good. So New England knows this so they are going to do everything they can to not give the NFL team that they are playing against any chance of coming back. So if you look at it this way you might can say that the Patriots respect the NFL team that they are playing against because they know that all the NFL teams are very good and they don't want to give that team any chance of coming back.

None of that matters. Atlanta got the same thing last week and the flag wasn't thrown until after the big screen replay was shown.

McCarthy had the same penalty in the 1st game of the season.

is it a dumb rule?? yes. but the coaches should know by now that ALL scoring plays are automatically reviewed so there's no need to throw the challenge flag.

Agreed; Red Sox fans (many of whom are also Patriots fans) know all too well that what seems like padding a lead could turn out to be vital game-deciding points. You could argue that football unlike baseball has a time limit thus a theoretically safe lead, but still.

All scoring plays are reviewd yes but he threw the flag prematurely so at the time it was thrown it wasn't a scoring play.
