I can't for the life of me understand why everyone is head over heels for Newton because of his game Saturday.

Umm... Didn't he go 8 for 19 for only 134 yards.

Since when is that good.
On top of that it was against 2nd and 3rd stringers.

He makes Chad Henne look like Montana.

Do I think he can become a good QB?
Sure, w/ good coaching and proper development.

Was he the Mesiah like some think he will be to the sport?
Not so much, as of right now I'm no more impressed w/ him than Tebow.

With that said it was the first pre-season game which means crap and is irrelevant like the Dolphins.

Me either bro lol I've re-watched all his snaps at least 3 times and I think Gabbert did better. He did better than I thought, but thats not saying much since he seemed to have Jamarcus written all over him.

Because he's being compared to Jimmy Clausen.

In all honesty he did a lot better than I expected him to do. Granted his stats could've been better had he not had recievers drop a few passes they shouldve caught. I think the reason he is being praised is because he stayed in the pocket and didnt get rattled when he faced pressure. He didnt try to take off and run not even once. The thing that concerns me the most about him besides his accuracy is that every throw was a laser. If the guy was 5 ft in front of him he still threw the ball as hard as he could in a straight line. He's definitely going to have to learn some touch.

It's odd that ESPN is reporting that Larry Fitzgerald can't be franchised like it's a breaking story. This is old news. Profootballtalk.com reported it last year, yet now the worldwide leader wants to make it seem like it's a story that Adam Schefter just broke. The link below is from October 8 of last year and mentions that Fitz can't be franchised.

I do believe they are making a big deal about it now because this is the start of his last contract season. And even though they aggressively (and stupidly) went after Kevin Kolb for QB (overpaying like all hell) it's still up to him to stay or go. He has said he would like to stay in AZ, but he probably wants a super bowl ring more. And a lot of teams would give bank breaking contracts to get him.

Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean reports that Chris Johnson wants a contract paying him in excess of $13 million a year over the first three seasons.
"I've seen it floated out Chris Johnson wants a $13 million per-year average over the first three of a new deal," wrote Wyatt on Twitter, referring to a report from ESPN's Chris Mortensen. "That's low - he wants more than that." Considering the Titans haven't even made an offer to Johnson, the gap between the two sides is nowhere near being closed. Missed regular season time is a real possibility. The Titans need to do something to get the ball rolling.

Oh he will, maybe not this season, but if the titans don't give it to him he will get it next season in FA.

You think this is bad wait until next year when Calvin enters his contract negotiations. Fitz wont get nearly as much publicity as Calvin will. Which of course is a shame because Fitz is a damn good receiver who was hobbled last year by shitty QB's. Kolb is better but sadly not much due to his unwillingness to throw deep downfield, as was shown by how little he utalized DeSean Jackson.

Johnson is not a free agent until 2013, and will be almost 28 at that point. That is why Johnson wants a contract so badly now. His value will only go down as he ages and if he gets hurt he'll never get a big payday. The Titans and Johnson will eventually get a new deal worked out but he needs to lower his demands some because he doesn't have a lot of leverage.

Both Johnsons aren't free agents until 2013, and Peterson will certainly get the franchise tag if he doesn't get an extension during the season.

I think espn said yesterday that they offered to make him the highest paid RB and he turned that down

Thought both Johnsons were FA at the end of 2012, same with AP, even if it is just AP theres a decent chance someone will throw so much money at him Minn wont be able to hold onto him. I can see Dallas doing something nuts to get him cause Jerry Jones is insane at throwing money at ppl

John Beck will start in Friday's preseason game against the Colts.
Beck missed the preseason opener due to a groin injury, but is now practicing fully. Coach Mike Shanahan is giving him a chance to seize back control of the quarterback battle after Rex Grossman handled himself quite well last week. Beck, who hasn't appeared in a game since 2007, has had the backing of the coaching staff ever since the lockout broke. Friday's start will be vital to his chances of cementing the job.

If I were the Chiefs I would lock some players up right now with front heavy contracts so they get them long term and take the hit now while they got ample space. Or sign a couple decent free agents.

Everyone is declaring Colt McCoy a star after he tore up some scrubs in week 1 ..... of the preseason.

The media is always overzealous in hyping and annointing new stars. We wont know which young QBs bust or succeed for at least 2 more years

He was very solid last year as a rookie as well. I wasn't sure that he would be a good pro but ims starting to think he has a shot.
