The ESPN story says he interviewed with the Eagles on Tuesday and then left the country, so I guess I'm not sure what the real story is.

I also wouldn't call him a jumper because of his past. Each time he left jobs it was because the new job was far superior to the prior and virtually any coach would have done the same thing. He now has one of the top jobs in college football so it becomes a question of whether he wants to stay in college or go to the pros.

I cant fault the guy for improving life for himself and his family. Its what any of us would do in the situation.

The Jags IMO rushed in to hire a head coach and look at the result from our season despite the massive injuries we have. We'll be in the rebuilding process for quite some time.
Just delayed his firing a year, since the Falcons were going to let him go last year.

Well he's never gonna beat Bama so he might as well move on

Seriously though, there are a lot of HC vacancies. I hope new coaches show up, rather than playing musical chairs and all the same guys under-performing in new cities.

I don't see anything about him sticking around for another year.

Is I were a head coach I wouldn't abandon my team the way he did at Cincinnati by leaving before the season ended. If another school wants a coach so bad they can wait till the current season is over.

I wonder who the last NFL coach was to get fired after just 1 year?

Its Official

Quote:

Jaguars fired head coach Mike Mularkey.

New general manager David Caldwell wants to handpick his own coach and rebuild the Jags together. So the offensive-minded Mularkey's second stint as an NFL head coach is over after one 2-14 season that saw the Jags rank 29th in total offense. His first chance -- with the Bills beginning in 2004 -- lasted just two seasons before he resigned. 49ers OC Greg Roman is considered the odds-on favorite to replace Mularkey thanks to his long-standing friendship with college roomate Caldwell. Eight NFL teams have now fired their coach since last Monday, with just two of the openings filled so far.

If the Jaguars hire 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman (he was a college teammate and roommate of new GM Dave Caldwell) I wonder if they'd trade for (or sign if the 49ers release) Alex Smith. Smith has been very good in Roman's system. The problem could be is if the owner is going to force the GM to sign or trade for Tim Tebow, which could make some candidates turn down the Jaguars job.

With Caldwell as our new GM, there's a better chance of not getting Tebow here in Jacksonville. I can see Caldwell going after Alex Smith if he's released after the season. The only people that want Tebow as a Jaguar is obviously Kahn, and Gator fans. Those that followed the Jaguars since day 1 knows it would be a mistake to pursue Tebow.

As for the other Jaguars coaching staff, they are allowed to seek interviews for new jobs. If 2012 was big on changes for us, I can't wait what's in store for this offseason.

Thought the Jags would've taken out Gene Smith and Mularkey in one swoop

Gene Smith really needed to go... a punter in the third round? turns out the guy is good but third round is still too soon
5 picks later the seahawks took russell wilson... yeah

6 HC positions open

I think out of the fired coaches only Lovie and Whisenhunt will get another HC gig

Are you sure? I could see Tebow helping you guys in the right capacity. But that's the key what is the right capacity? TE, H back? KR? Wildcat? Second would he actually do what he needs to do to stay in the NFL. Hes not a QB that's for sure and the first team that realizes this and can correctly utilize him is going to surprise the shit out of everyone.

I meant this year was his delay. He was going to be fired by the Falcons last year before the Jags picked him up, let him coach a year and then fired him.

Romeo Crennel was technically only HC for 1 year in KC. He was, however, interim coach for 3 games last year.

Oakland took a K in the 1st and a P in the 5th of the same draft. And now they have the best all-around kickers.

Considering you can barely get down the the field enough for your kicker to hit a 50 yard FG ...

These are the Jaguars first round picks under Gene Smith as GM. Every one of these was a top-10 pick.

Eugene Monroe
Tyson Alualu - They took this guy 10th overall when they could have traded down 10 picks and he still would have been there.
Blaine Gabbert - At this point it's safe to say bust
Justin Blackmon

Then again we had a lot of bad early picks even prior to Smith as GM. Jags took Matt Jones #21 in 2005 - three picks before Aaron Rodgers was drafted.

justin blackmon had a garbage rookie season if you only counted the games with Gabbert at QB

he had a breakout game and finished the season with respectable numbers but still way short of a #5 overall pick
and he was playing second fiddle to CS3 (Cecil Shorts the third)

still a little early on him, maybe he can be good with a real QB
