Basically his only claim to fame. I think the Giants cut him that offseason too. Not sure if he still plays in the NFL or not but the guy should be fine financially for life just off that one catch. Seems funny seeing a list full of present and future HOF'ers and highly touted rookies, then Tyree.

NO he retired I made fun of him in our other thread because he's such a bum. And I knew he'd never do anything after that LUCKY catch that was his lotto moment.

He "retired" at 30? Something tells me it wasn't exactly a voluntary retirement. Was just reading the Giants even gave him a 1 day contract so he could retire with the team. Those 1 day contracts are one fo the dumbest ideas in pro sports.

just as i figured...packers release hawk.

The transactions were announced Wednesday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.

“We want to thank Donald for all of his contributions to the Packers and for being a good teammate throughout his career in Green Bay,” Thompson said. “He has been a professional and we wish him well in the future.

“We appreciate Derrick’s work and contributions over the past two seasons. He has been a good player on our team and we appreciate his passion and energy.

“With A.J., the business side of the game is driving this decision. We’re hopeful that we can continue to work with A.J. to have him be a part of our team in the future.”

Hawk was scheduled to make $10 mill in 2011. He's a good player but probably not worth that. Supposedly they are going to try to offer him a restructured deal for less.

i hope he's willing to sign w/us over anyone else.

he's not worth $10 mil this year, no.

he was pretty pumped to come to a smaller market so hopefully that's still a selling point for him.

I'll bet he does end up signing a new deal with Green Bay. It's clear they want him on the team and this was a financial decision and nothing more. Hawk seems to like being there too.

So if he said F no he'd get none of that 10 wher if they redid it he might get like 3-7 million... I think I'd do that over having an ego about it Although some teams that need linebackers (redskins cough cough) might overpay

I can't imagine anyone would pay him that much money except maybe Al Davis or Dan Snyder. But I'm sure both those teams are over the cap anyway and can't pay that.

If the lockout lasted past next year's draft the players would go back into the draft, but nobody thinks there's even a chance the lockout will last that long. Worst case scenario is likely the lockout lasts into September and a couple games are missed, but with the ruling that the NFL can't get the TV money it's highly likely a lockout won't last near that long. I think the owners have a newer sense of urgency because a lot of owners can't afford to make their stadium payments without the TV money. Thanks to the TV ruling I really think there's a chance the CBA expiration deadline could get pushed back and an agreement could be reached in the next month. Even if the deadline isn't pushed back and the lockout starts tonight I am still optimistic.

Citing two sources, TMJ 4 Milwaukee reports that free agent AJ Hawk will re-sign with the Packers on Thursday.
Cut Wednesday to avoid a guaranteed $10 million salary, Hawk will reportedly fly back to Green Bay on Thursday and sign a five-year contract. Hawk apparently never even considered other teams; after his release he could've immediately begun taking free agent visits around the league. If the report is correct, the Packers may wind up parting ways with Nick Barnett.

The NFL should have just upped benefits offered like a 20% raise for the players and changed the draft salary.

Players already make about 60% of the revenue, that would have made it 72%, which even I think is too much.

The whole problem is they want to pay the players LESS money. There's no way they would offer them more.....

I don't doubt it, but the players asking to see all the books and crap makes them look just as bad... I didn't know they already had 60% of revenue. I'd have just put out a simple offer we want better HC and maybe a draft restructure in salary and guarantee some of that left over money gets spread around. Everything else stay the same and just kept pounding that at them.

I imagine even if the draft goes off without a hitch, this will be the first year not a single draft pick gets a ridiculous contract, new CBA or not.

The player's actually make about 50% of revenue, because the 59.6% they currently receive is after the NFL takes the first $1 billion of revenue. The NFL wants to increase the amount they take to $2 billion and decrease the percentage the players get.

I actually think the bigger problem is the revenue sharing among teams they currently have. It makes no sense that every team makes equal revenue from contracts. Why should the Bills, who didn't have a national TV game last year and played all 1:00 games, make as much as the Cowboys, Patriots, and Packers, who all played numerous national TV games. In addition, what sense does it make that owners like Jerry Jones and Bob Kraft paid for their new stadiums on their own, while you've got owners like the Bengals Mike Brown who paid nearly nothing for his stadium getting the same amount of revenue. It's similar to baseball in that some teams are spending money while other teams hardly spend any money and reap tens of millions of dollars each year for nothing.

THIS!!!!!!

I heard the vikings are getting a new stadium soon from the Minnesota lottery. Owner doesn't have to spend any money, so he shouldn't get as much money.

Wow I guess the Vikings won't be moving to LA after all then, I wonder who will be going there since they seem to be renovating the stadium.
