The Chargers are going to LA, it's a near-certainty. They are never getting a new stadium in the San Diego area, and their owners aren't willing to pay for a new stadium on their own. I can't say I blame them. They've never gotten great attendance in San Diego regardless of how good they were, and it makes sense to move to the second-biggest television market. LA already has 2 developers willing to build new stadiums so they should be able to get a new stadium with minimal taxpayer money. The NFL would like to get 2 teams in LA but I don't know who the other team would be if the Vikings stay in Minnesota. The Raiders and 49ers need new stadiums but I think they'll get them in their current areas, although it's possible they'll end up sharing a new stadium. The Jaguars will likely stay in Jacksonville, in large part because it'd be tough to break their lease plus attendance improved this year.

he Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel confirms that AJ Hawk's re-signing "does not bode well" for Nick Barnett's future with the Packers.
Hawk's deal is expected to be worth $30-35 million over five years, and Barnett is due $6M in 2011, including salary and bonuses. Desmond Bishop and Hawk will be locked in as starters with Brandon Chillar returning as the top backup. Barnett can pretty safely expect his release later this offseason.

The owners shouldve known that this would eventually get to that judge & he always sides with the players....even PFT said months ago that this is what the ruling would be....so shouldnt the owners have expected this outcome ?

They didnt make billions of $$ being stupid so what am i missing here ?

It could just be a diversionary tactic, what surprises me even more is we're this close to the deadline and they only met for 4 hours yesterday, it's not like they had better things to do.

Obviously they just came in on something that's been established from prior generations these guys didn't put the work in to get people to watch it, but they are really dumb that they'd let their money market potentially dry up over some bs that's making them TONS as the agreement stands now.

NFL owners have formally offered to extend CBA talks beyond Thursday's 11:59 p.m. deadline.
The union is waiting for assurance that the owners are serious about coming to an agreement before putting away their decertification card. Per SI's Jim Trotter, the extension must be agreed upon by 4:00 p.m. ET or the NFLPA will file to decertify. The talks, aimed at "stopping the clock" to continue negotiations, are described as "legit but fragile."

JaMarcus Russell -- widely regarded as the greatest bust in NFL history -- is in danger of losing the $2.4 million mansion he purchased after signing with the Raiders back in 2007 ... TMZ has learned.

According to documents obtained by TMZ -- foreclosure proceedings have begun on the former #1 overall draft pick's house ... after he allegedly failed to pay $195,512.05 in mortgage payments.

Now, if the unemployed QB doesn't cough up the cash in the next 3 months, the bank will put the home on the auction block.

why push it back? what will change in the next 24 hrs? my guess is they will keep pushing it back until there is a new deal

on another note the Jets cut Gholston the other day and today it came out in Gholston contract when he got his 1st sack he would of got 9M bonus , but he never got a sack

lmao I'll never understand why someone who would make that much money wouldn't pay for their home outright, and god forbid something happens you'd only have to pay property taxes. not like that guy needs to have a mortgage.

Well TMZ is far more accurate/reliable than ESPN, that's for damn sure. I trust TMZ more than most of the mainstream media. Can't say I'm surprised at all about JaMarcus. It was a guarantee that fool would be bankrupt in no time.

That's good news for the Packers. A.J. Hawk may not have been worth $10 next season but he's definately worth $30-35 mill over 5 years. He's a very solid player.

Actually a lot of those bottom-feeder MLB teams are flush with cash. The owners love to claim poverty when in reality they are turning big profits thanks to collecting luxury taxes from the big market teams. The Pittsburgh Pirates got busted a few years ago when someone leaked their finances that showed the team was making $30 mill+ in profits each year despite spending almost nothing to make the team competitive. It's pro sports' dirty little secret - many team owners get rich by purposely neglecting their team.

As much as I hate teams like the Yankees at least their owners actually care about fielding a top-notch team. Owners of teams like the Pirates disgust me far more by claiming poverty and neglecting their team when they are really raking in huge profits.

Cam Newton isn't a first-round pick

As valuable as size, speed and strength are, they do have limitations when evaluating players. Pro football history is full of imposing physical specimens who didn't pan out because they had some weaknesses that more than offset their elite physical attributes (e.g. Brian Bosworth, Mike Mamula, Lawrence Phillips).


Despite the clear historical warnings, in just about every draft there are teams that will select a player based on his physical attributes, ignoring his glaring football deficiencies.


The 2010 Denver Broncos offered a good example of this when they drafted last year's somewhat flawed quarterbacking phenom, Tim Tebow. The recent comments of John Elway, one of the Broncos' new head honchos and a man who knows a thing or two about quarterbacking, that Tebow is still "very raw," even after a year in the system, say their organization is probably going through a serious case of buyer's remorse.

This is something that teams should keep in mind when considering drafting former Auburn Tigers quarterback Cam Newton in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft. His physical characteristics are off the charts (6-foot-5, 248 pounds, 4.59 40-yard dash time), but a tape review of his 2010 season shows several significant weaknesses that make him more than a bit of a first-round risk.
