Barkley is a bit undersized and has questionable arm strength, but he has great intangibles and leadership abilities. Smith has good size and an NFL arm, but seems mentally weak. I personally like Barkley better, but I can see why you might take Smith first.

Now it's always hard to say for sure, but I find it difficult to believe that Frederick wouldn't have still been there at 47.

Jones, reaching for need as always.

If you say so, remind me again about how you guys did when CJ Spiller was out? O yeah... but QB is your only major position of need. You guys are getting your hopes up like the Jets did with Sanchez. You Draft a Franchise QB when they are there you dont try to create one. The only time creating one has worked was when the Patriots got ass lucky in round 6 of the 2000 draft with a guy named Tom Brady.

You guys tried to create a franchise QB last time look how that turned out with Fitz. You should have stuck with Fitz and built the line if he got hurt so what. Next 2 years much better QB's will be coming out of college and thats when you sell the farm on drafts ala Redskins and get RG3.

Brees seems pretty good for a 2nd rounder

He was also a mid to late 1st round draft projection Ej Manuel wasnt even on the radar as a 1st round pick.

I don't know what it is about FSU QB's but the NFL loves them. Last two starters have wit in the first round.

And yes..that is more than moving down 9 spots from where you were originally going to draft

Raiders got #12 and a high #2. The Pats got a late 2 and later round picks. They did not get anywhere close to what the Raiders got.

Cancelling out the 2nd round picks (which really skews things in the Patriots favor), nobody would trade the #12 for a 3rd, 4th, and a 7th. More picks doesn't = getting more.

You can add CBS Sports' Pete Prisco to the group that doesn't like the EJ Manuel pick, giving it an F:

Bills select: E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida State
What the heck are the Bills thinking? Did they watch this kid? He isn't Cam Newton. This is a horrible move.

In the Pats case it does, there scouting team bar none is the best in the NFL they find gems where noone else does. If it does not fit there scheme perfect they dont take the player or they cut him. There is no better run franchise in the NFL the the Patriots.

Would not be surprised if they get 4-5 starters out of this draft in the next 2-3 years.

Here's what I'm hoping for tonight from the Steelers. Zach Ertz TE from Stanford, Giovani Bernard RB from NC or Keenan Allen WR from Cal. I Really hope we land at least one of these guys.

The EJ bashing needs to stop, its not his fault a team fell in love with him and reached to pick him. I'm hoping he makes everybody eat crow when its all said in done. Its not like they pick him over RG3 or Andrew Luck, this was a weak QB class, so they took who they liked.

Honestly though I think he would have been their easy in 9 or 10 spots for another trade back or even later. So even if he turns out great (hopefully for movies sake) it was still a reach pick...

The only true saving grace he has over a Jason Campbell or Leftwich is he doesn't have a freakishly long release (thank god)

Yeah not going to happen, they reached way to early, its evident by the fact noone took QB round 1. The Bills could have traded back got even more picks, or drafted for other needs and protected the guy the claim is there new number 1. Its a bad pick based on the class and also the fact they could have gotten him 1-2 rounds later. Just saying...

Yep when he would have been there at 9[in the 2nd] unless there was an unusual run at QB's between 5-8. Alls will be forgotten at least for bills fans if he does well. I just can't see FSU suddenly pumping out a stud qb, but even Brad Johnson career would be worth that pick.

What if they didn't have a partner to trade back with? It was reported that Philly was high on him and could take him with there second round pick.

I just don't see it Lots of things get reported during the draft The only way I could have seen him going was that run in the second round with teams that might want a qb although I forgot Nati has a good QB so they would have been out of that scenario.

Thats when the bills pickup the phone and call philly when it is there turn, the telephone ... it is such a great invention.

Best part is hes not Peyton or Brady or Breese they could have gotten a QB next year drafted a OL this year, Kept Fitz one more year at a reduced rate and if he got hurt so what. What good is a QB if you cant protect him...

For every Brady there's 200 Leafs, pretty safe bet even for an armchair coach

There are three teams that could have pick him before the bills. Philly, AZ and maybe the Jets if they go that route. So maybe they didn't want to give up draft picks to get ahead of those teams.
