Anyone seen the 30 For 30 episode "Elway to Marino"? I finally watched it today and there was a lot of things going on behind the scenes of the 1983 draft I'd never heard as it was a little before my time.

Jim Kelly talked about how he was in tears when Buffalo drafted him. It was the last place he wanted to end up.

Supposedly there was some brief discussion of a trade with the Niners sending Joe Montana to Baltimore with Elway going to San Francisco.

Chicago and the Raiders were seriously discussing a deal that would have sent Howie Long and a couple other players to the Bears in exchange for the Raiders getting back a high draft pick that the Raiders would use in a package deal to land Elway. Differing accounts were brought up by different people, with Raiders front office staff claiming the NFL intervened to quash the deal, not wanting the Raiders to get Elway. Elway's agent seems sure Elway would have been a Raider if the NFL and Al Davis were not in the middle of a lawsuit in 1983.

It's been a very, very bad week for free-agent wideout Titus Young. Young was arrested twice in the span of 15 hours last weekend, a pretty phenomenal feat in a pretty phenomenally bad way. And now he's been busted for allegedly doing something bad again.

Via the Detroit News, Young was arrested at 11:30 p.m. Friday and charged with breaking into a home in San Clemente, Calif. -- and apparently "wanted to fight with" sheriff's deputies as well.

"There was a brief struggle," Lt. Joe Balicki of the Orange County Sheriff's Department told the News. "He wanted to fight with the deputies. They ended up subduing him."

Young was charged with burglary, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and, according to the News, is still in jail while facing a $75,000 bond.

If you're scoring at home, that's three arrests in less than a week.

For a guy who was once a second-round pick, he's now been released by the Lions after just two seasons, picked up and released by the Rams and had one of the more memorably bad offseasons we've seen.

It's quite unlikely anyone's going to take a chance on Young between now and the start of the season, and unless he can get help from somewhere and start to turn things around, he stands a chance of washing out of the NFL completely, just a year removed from many people pegging him as a probable breakout wideout receiver.

I have police in the family so I know chances are they say subdue when they really mean they beat the crap out of him for attacking a cop. Hope they didn't use their billy clubs, although as stupid as Young is it might not make him any dumber to take blows to the head.

Even the dumbest person can usually stay out of trouble long enough not to get arrested three times in one week. It's starting to sound more like an underlying mental problem to me. Or maybe addiction issues.

+ a new comedy so must be 1/2 hour each.

I think this is the 1st ever ever that 2 different shows air in that slot.


Also a new show "Rake" will air after the nfc champ game which fox has the 6:30 slot this year.

I'm not convinced EJ would have been there at pick #41, we did the right thing taking him at #16. He's the quarterback we wanted, and we had to be sure to get him. He's a hell of a football player, you'll love him with the Titans. We do have a couple young guards on our roster, so hopefully a blue chipper will step forward and fill that hole.

It's not because he's a bad GM (although I'm not saying he's a good GM), it's because he's 73 and can't handle the everyday rigors that come with being an NFL GM. Nix's departure was not a surprise and had been expected to happen at some point in the not too distant future, and the Bills have been grooming Doug Whaley to take over for Nix for the last couple years.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Nix wasn't a bad GM at all, and he was excellent at overseeing the drafting aspects of our team. Our team is in considerably better shape since he took over. I'm hoping Whaley can continue us on the right path. This isn't a surprise at all though, we all knew it was coming. I'll miss Buddy's press conferences, he was a fun guy to listen to.
