How about this scenario for the Colts?

Colts trade for Tim Tebow. Tebow magically leads Indy to a perfect 16-0 season and a Super Bowl victory in the Colts own stadium, thus proving his holiness Timmy Tebow is the second coming.

IRVING, Texas -- Like they did with DeMarcus Ware and Miles Austin earlier this summer, the Dallas Cowboys have re-worked the contract of Tony Romo to save $6.552 million against the 2011 salary cap, according to sources.


As a result the Cowboys have roughly $18 million in salary cap room as they enter the season.

Romo was scheduled to make a $9 million base salary in 2011 but the team converted $8.19 million into signing bonus, which gives Romo a base salary of $810,000.

The restructured contracts of Ware and Austin saved the Cowboys roughly $13 million in cap room.

The big difference in the Romo maneuver and the dealings with Ware and Austin is that the Cowboys added three years to Romo's contract that void if he is on the team through the 2013 season. The original deal Romo signed in 2007 runs through 2013.

By extending the years, the Cowboys were able to prorate the $8.19 million over five years instead of three, which saved them approximately $1.1 million. New Orleans and Indianapolis had made similar cap adjustments with Drew Brees and Peyton Manning to help its causes in recent years.

Why do I have a feeling the most lopsided score from this weekend's games will be the San Diego Chargers absolutely throttling the Minnesota Vikings? I fear for Donovan McNabb's mental well-being. He had a bad offensive line in D.C. last year, and he jumps to what looks like a worse one in '11. The biggest problem may be that Charlie Johnson, a perennial disappointment with the Colts who's really best-suited to be a guard, has signed up to be the left tackle and protect Donnie Football's blind side. But right guard Anthony Herrera, who's strong when healthy, is also a real worry, as he tore an ACL late last year and may not be at peak effectiveness. Plus on defense, the Williams Wall is gone (Pat Williams was cut, Kevin Williams is suspended) and underrated end Ray Edwards now labors in Atlanta. Of course, the Chargers are capable of doing myriad dumb things early in seasons, but to me this looks messy. Adrian Peterson, please show us you're superhuman.

The economy blows, as it has for years. Not everyone can afford to just up and go to NFL games. All blackouts do is hurt fans who like to watch their team on TV.

Blackouts are especially bad for smaller market teams. How the hell are smaller market teams supposed to build a fan base if nobody can watch their games on TV locally?
