As ProFootballTalk.com point out last month, the league office has no sway over player personal conduct and drug testing during a lockout. They "forfeit" the ability to discipline Cook, so he won't face a suspension. The NFL could attempt to punish Cook retroactively, though he'd have a strong case in dispute.

Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett confirmed that SS LaRon Landry will continue to play close to the line of scrimmage following the addition of FS O.J. Atogwe.
Atogwe will be the centerfielder to Landry's "box" safety. "He makes more tackles," said Haslett of Landry. "He's not out in space. ... He's much better toward the line of scrimmage than he is out in space." Landry was an IDP monster pre-Achilles and wrist injuries last year, averaging nearly ten tackles per game. It sounds like he could get more blitz opportunities, too.

In the box safeties are pretty much just tacklers that can't cover, so Roy Williams basically. Yeah I prefer the kind of safeties that can play up on the line and back in coverage but there aren't a lot of those.

lol he was terrible, and all of a sudden he just falls off the map.

And we gave one away in Ryan Clark which just like letting Smoot go when he was thriving under Williams, we had to waste picks to fill the holes created

Citing both players and owners sources, the Washington Post reports that the 2011 NFL season would likely be played with no salary cap if the players succeed in ending the owners' lockout.
The system would reportedly be similar to how the 2010 season was played, with all players who were tendered as restricted free agents, and franchise and transition tagged continuing on their one-year contracts. Thus, all those RFA tenders that were assigned in late February would be upheld. The NFL would reportedly stay uncapped because the system in place "might have a better chance of withstanding an antitrust challenge by the players." The union already agreed to these rules once. The players expect a court ruling on the injunction of the lockout "within three to four weeks."

It won't matter if you leave those franchise tags in place because that will allow teams to keep younger guys in place. But if that goes away, then you might see a baseball situation where money teams start buying up young players rather than middle aged bubble guys who might have a few years left.

An offseason turned upside down will continue to get odder.

The NFL Players Association is putting into place a plan that would prevent each top college prospect from attending next month's draft in New York, according to multiple league sources. The NFLPA already has contacted 17 top prospects that ordinarily would have received an invitation to attend the draft and informed them not to go.


Thus, when NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announces the name of the first player selected, the player will not walk on to the stage at Radio City Music Hall as has been the custom. And the player will not be there to do interviews with ESPN or NFL Network. The draft will go on, but not in the manner in which it has been conducted before.


"As of right now, this is 100 percent happening," said one source familiar with the Players Association's thinking. "This is going down."


The Players Association even has gone so far as to consider placing the players on another competing network to do post-pick interviews, though no final decisions have been made. Another source said that, in this day and age, it's possible that the top prospects also could appear on a social media network platform, only.


"We plan to invite the 15-20 top prospects and their families to New York as we normally do for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. And, as always, it is the decision of the players and their families as to whether they attend," league spokesman Greg Aiello said in response to the report.

Yet another source suggested the NFL still could try to pay the incoming rookies to attend the draft, but it is something the league never has done in the past.
