According to ESPN's Ed Werder, free agent DE Jared Allen wants close to $10 million per season.
Allen continues to badly overestimate his worth on the open market. He'll turn 32 years old next month and has shown rapidly declining quickness as a pass-rusher as well liabilities in the run game. The Cowboys and Seahawks are not going to be interested in paying Allen DeMarcus Ware or Julius Peppers kind of coin. He's failed to gain any leverage with those hollow retirement threats.

Think we'd be better off grabbing a couple of quick DEs through the draft right now.

From what I've read Jared Allen doesn't have a huge desire to play, so if he doesn't get a big offer he'd be content taking the year off or retiring. Maybe the retirement threats are hollow, but Allen has made over $75 million in his career so if the best offer he gets is around $3 million per year I could see him calling it quits. I could also see him waiting until after training camp to see if there's any injuries or even into the season and joining a contender for a playoff run.

I still hold out hope he will change his mind, come back to the Vikes at a huge hometown discount and a reduced role, but I don't think it's realistic.

Allen is a Texas boy but I think he'd just as soon return to Texas and retire without playing for the Cowboys. Mixed feeling about whether I want him to come here or not, although I think if we can get another good DT in the draft he could possibly return to his 15+ sack a year form.

I would love for the Cowboys to sign him and end up in cap hell once again in 2-3 years like always. When will these teams learn

Allen is not a Texas boy. Although he was born in Texas he was raised in California, went to college in Idaho, and lives in Arizona during the offseason.

Some rule change proposals for next week's owner's meeting have been released. The Patriots are proposing the following changes:

Quote:
1. Goal posts extended an additional 5 feet above the cross bar. "The reasoning of this proposal is that definitive rulings cannot be made on many field goal tries that cross over the top of the goal post."

2. Make the extra point more challenging by making the line of scrimmage the 25-yard line. "In order to make the point after a more competitive play."

3. Place fixed cameras on all boundary lines -- sideline, end line, end zone. "To supplement the TV cameras and to guarantee coverage of those lines for replay, no matter where the TV cameras are located."

4. Coaches can challenge any officials' decision other than scoring plays. "To make more extensive use of the replay system."
The proposal to raise the goalposts may have to do with this play from 2012:

The Redskins are proposing that for Thursday night games teams are allowed 49 players on their gameday roster, instead of the 46 that are currently allowed for all games.

I never understood why there had to be 7 inactives in the first place. So you're good enough to make the team, but you're not good enough to wear your uniform to the game? Can someone explain this to me please?

It really doesn't make a lot of sense. Even former Packers Vice President Andrew Brandt said today on Twitter that he never got a real answer about why all players couldn't be active:

Quote:
Andrew Brandt ‏@adbrandt
Would ask every year why we paid players to stand in sweats while deactivated. Got vague answers about injuries, competitive balance.

If you are going to move kick offs to the 40..why have them at all? Just start at the 20 and eliminate them..just make it happen now becasue we all know it's going to happen. Players accept the risks involved...quit trying to fill it full of **** bags. The days of big returns and big hits are all but over

Good luck getting that $$ now Hester if this passes

The only other benefit of the kickoff is the ability to do onside kicks. Starting at the twenty gives the kicking/defensive team 0% chance of getting the ball back.

Woodson back with the Raiders for another year. Him and Ed Reed will both need walkers to play next year

So Maurice Jones-Drew went to visit Pittsburgh the other day and as of now. There's 3 or 4 teams interested. Per MJD, he's taking his time before he makes a decision.

Regardless if this passes Hester isn't going to get near what he wants. Per multiple reports Hester wants $4 million per year. No team will pay anything close to that. He has no offensive value so teams are paying purely for special team production. The closest comparable player to Hester is Trindon Holliday, and he got a $700,000 contract with the Giants. If Hester plays this year it will likely be for around the veteran's minimum.

They need kick returns its one of the most exciting aspects of the game. They best NOT remove them from the game even tho that's what the NFL wants.
