NFL suspended Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington for "at least" a year for violations of the league's substance abuse policy.

FOX Sports 910 in Arizona first had the report, and it's now confirmed. The NFL announced this suspension is specifically for substance abuse violations and "unrelated to Washington’s recent plea bargain for an assault charge," which perhaps explains why the announcement was "at least" a year. (He could face further discipline.) Washington was also suspended four games in 2013 for substance abuse violations. A dynamic coverage linebacker, pass rusher, and run defender, Washington's ban is an enormous blow to Arizona's defense. They'll turn to sophomore Kevin Minter and Steelers retread Larry Foote as underwhelming replacements.

Josh Gordon was issued a speeding ticket in Strongsville, Ohio over the Memorial Day weekend, while his passenger was cited for marijuana possession.
The speeding ticket is obviously a non-story, but it shows a remarkable lack of common sense and self awareness for a player in Gordon's situation — appealing a year-long suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy — to get caught with someone with marijuana. The easy inference, of course, is that the weed didn't just belong to Gordon's friend. The situation will undoubtedly complicate Gordon's appeal of his ban, and make it far more likely the 16-game punishment is upheld. Gordon is risking a lifetime ban with his reckless behavior. It's a depressing waste of talent for a 23-year-old wideout who just won the league's receiving title.

You guys will more than likely win the division again. It's still such a weak division, and we are your only immediate "competition." Our first four games are tough, and so are yours... We absolutely have to take advantage of Mathis being suspended and beat you guys week 4.

Please tell me you at least recognize that we've given away 2-3 of the games to you guys in the Luck era... People call me a homer for saying that, but it was absolutely ridiculous how we lost a few of those games.

I plan on making the trip to Indy this year.

Ok, I thought a full season suspension was excessive for what he'd done but he sure isn't making it easy for me to defend him anymore. Gordon obviously just doesn't care about the league rules.

He's going to be suspended for smoking pot while Ray Rice won't be suspended for beating his wife and while Irsay won't receive punishment for the DUI.

Gordon is, without a doubt, an idiot. But what he has done is minor in comparison to what many other athletes have done. DUIs don't even result in suspensions most of the time. Yet smoking pot recreationally can get you a year suspension. It clearly had no impact on his performance... NFL's leading receiver and he missed two games.

Stuff just doesn't make sense.

What a shame though. He was an exciting player to watch and I enjoyed owning him in most of my FF leagues after drafting him in the 9th-10th round. Steal.

Ray Rice is going to get 3-4 games they have already said that. Sorry but Gordon broke the rules while we may think pot is nothing its a banned NFL substance. He broke the rules hes an adult he should lose the year as he was on his 3rd strike.

Well I'd blame the justice system on Irsay. Considering he had a drug buffet on him when he was arrested any normal person would have ended up charged with a bunch of felonies. But this is a billionaire so he gets his own criminal justice system. I don;t think there's anything the NFL could do considering what minor charges were levied against him.

I think Ray Rice will get something like a 4 game suspension according to reports, which still sin't enough IMO.

Gordon's year long suspension was obviously BS, but at least now it sounds like the NFL is going to correct the idiotic inequities of it's drug system so minor things like pot and cough syrup don't result in major punishment anymore.

Will Hill is a decent player but not good enough to keep on your team when he keeps getting suspended for weed. He's got a ton of talent but never seemed to have the work ethic or dedication to be a great player, and his whole career from college to the NFL has been full of poor decisions.
