I will always refer to the Jets as the jest, the Bills as the Jills, and the Patriots as the patsies (Or the cheatriots), but don't confuse that for anything more than poking fun at the Fins rivals. Do I enjoy seeing the Fins rivals lose? Of course, but nothing more.

Forget about it. Clearly if you have a different opinion than this member, you are a troll. I found that out a couple days ago.

But the referee, not seeing who was yelling for a timeout, blew his whistle, charging the timeout.

There ya go. There is the rule. Can you explain to me how the ref properly enforced this rule?
Oh I don't know maybe here.

Walrus what your missing is the sub addendum to the rule that states when the clock is running low and the ball is about to be snapped the refs are required to keep there eyes on the field. Its a rule with a massive loophole as they have no one to enforce the actual rule as they should. I wouldn't be shocked if there's a change to things after this year. Im not saying what happened to your team is right, but the ref heard Time Out does not matter who it came from in this case and the whistle was blown. Human error is and always will be apart of the game, 1 play does not a loss make, Its a crap thing to say man as yeah your team had a great play and come back. But its a game. Id chalk the Jets up there now with the Oakland Tuck rule, and the Giants Kick rule, and the Lions completing the process rule.

Good explanation.
Of course the NFL is always trying to improve the game...I wonder if this incident will warrant some sort of change to the rule. Or maby even have Ref/coaches use a buzzer of sorts? Seems like a tough situation to 100% iron out.

If you can show me the sub addendum in writing, then I will give you credit. Otherwise it's unofficial, and therefore not valid. Here's the link: http://static.nfl.com/static/content...ame_Timing.pdf

Either way moving on. We are on primetime this week, and those Bears are going down

What if a fan or reporter standing right behind the bench is the guy calling time-out? The argument does not change whatsoever, the Ref is still required to look at the field, and still would hear "Time out".

You better believe it has to matter who it comes from.

They flat out said they did not look at who it came from, All they heard was Time Out and blew the whistle. Go read the articles with interviews from the refs. If it comes from the sideline they blow the whistle. Im not saying its right I think the Jets got hosed as it didnt come from the HC. In most cases the ref should have ignored it as usually the HC stands next to you if hes gonna call TO.

Please no, they tried the buzzer system when they reintroduced replay, it would cause more issues than it would solve.

Right behind? I think a ref can tell the difference between someone a few feet away compared to someone from the stands.

I'm not sure if a rule change is needed. I think it's hilarious that people are actually blaming the ref for this fiasco. It wouldn't have been an issue if Marty didn't yell for the TO in the first place. If the HC is the only person allowed to call a TO from the sideline, than make it a penalty if a player or assistant coach calls one.

Yes you are.

Not sure what exact part that I'm grasping for.. but that's ok.

I guess you know about officiating in the NFL than Mike Pereira.

I guess it wasn't the first time an assistant called a timeout on a crucial 4th down play....

I've already brought this up. Man you are dense lol.

Can you provide me where in the official rule book where an OC or a player not on the field can call a TO. If you are able to do that, I will say you are right and I am wrong. If you are unable to answer this question, then this discussion is over. It's a pretty easy question. There is only one answer...

I don't need to get over it, I liked the outcome. Also disagree 100% with the refs getting screwed, it was their own doing.

It's always a bad sign when you have to resort to name calling and/or personal attacks.

It isn't an official rule. It is how the rules are implemented. Take the emphasis on illegal contact and defensive holding this year. Did they change the rules? Of course not, but they changed how they are calling them. I bet if you ask all 32 head coaches how they'd like the Refs to proceed when hearing someone call timeout from the sidelines, I bet all would want the ref to stop play instead of having the ref turn around to look and verify it is the head coach. Not only could the play clock run out but the side judge could also miss the snap of the play, encroachment, offsides, false start, illegal shift, etc. This is an isolated incident, and one that is 100% the Jets fault. I put absolutely no blame on the shoulders of the ref. At that point even a delay of a second or two could be critical.

I answered your question, now answer mine.

Do you know more about being a NFL ref and NFL Rules than Mike Pereira?
