AP Suspended indefinitely, his hearing is not until Oct 8th

Quote:
The Vikings announced early Wednesday morning that they're placing Adrian Peterson on the Exempt/Commissioner's Permission list, requiring the running back to stay away from the team until further notice.

There's no mandatory length of stay on the list, but the Vikings indicated that Peterson would remain there "until the legal proceedings are resolved." Clearly, that suggests it'll be more than a one- or two-week matter. Instead, it now seems Matt Asiata could be the Vikings' starting running back for the long haul, and he should be picked up in all formats.

How could he not be? Especially after the Ray Rice incident. I think this was the right call.

They pretty much had to appeal the suspension. For one thing Rice is a dues-paying member of the union and it's the unions job to fight for the rights of it's members, even if they don't support what the member did. The bigger point is if they don't fight this they could set a precedent where the commissioner has the power to punish a member multiple times for the same offense.

I've thought from the start the NFL should have taken no action on Rice after the video came out and Rice was cut by the Ravens. There was absolutely no way any team would have picked up Rice this year after the public outcry. By suspending him indefinitely they opened themselves up to a guaranteed appeal from the NFLPA and a potential lawsuit from Rice which could lead to a lot of high-profile members of the NFL and Ravens getting deposed and possibly testifying under oath. The suspension realistically accomplished nothing while making the NFL look terrible for not getting the suspension right in the first place, and opened themselves up to a lot of unnecessary headaches.

And what is the NFLPA supposed to do, as a union is there responsibility no matter the charge to fight for there member. I love how people dog unions for doing what they are supposed to be doing yet no one seems to have a problem with there current standard of living in this country which you can thank the unions for fighting for you all those years ago.

And just to be clear Ray Rice is appealing the suspension not the union, the union is helping him because that is there job. its also why Rice hired and independent outside council to represent him.

I absolutely agree in that it is a major problem. You have to be involved in both aspects offense and defense.

Wes Welker Officially reinstated

Quote:
The NFL and NFLPA have officially agreed to an overhauled drug policy.
The two sides have agreed to "wide-ranging improvements" to their policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Among other things, the league will now test for HGH and start that process this season. Final details of the new agreement on the substance-abuse policy are still being worked out. The NFL announced Wes Welker, Orlando Scandrick, and Stedman Bailey can rejoin their teams immediately. A first positive test for steroids, HGH, stimulants or other banned substances will result in a four-game ban. A second violation is a 10-game suspension, while a third positive test will be a two-year ban.

Wes Welker, Cowboys CB Orlando Scandrick, and Rams WR Stedman Bailey are all allowed to return to their teams immediately and play Week 3 after the NFL and NFLPA agreed to a new drug policy Wednesday.
All three players can return to their respective teams' facilities Wednesday morning and begin practicing with their clubs. Welker has already been cleared of his preseason concussion and should be back in the lineup Sunday against the Seahawks. The Broncos will have to see where Welker is at physically after he hasn't practiced with the teams for a few weeks, but we'd expect him to be out there at least in a limited role. He'll eventually be on the WR2/3 map.

I don't think he'll make it through the season. He's one concussion away from his career ending and I don't think he can or will change the way he plays.

I think he is the better prospect than Winston regardless of Winstons immaturity. Mariota has a REALLY high ceiling.

Just because the pictures were out there prove that it was him, prove he physically did that damage to that child, this is not as open and close as the ray rice thing were dood was on video dragging his wife out of the elevator, or you saw her get cold clocked. Yes I know he admitted to disciplining his child but that's not an admission of the damage we saw in those pictures. And we all know txt messages can be faked. I understand yes he probably did do that but until convicted he is innocent in the eyes of the law.

I think it's crazy that the NFL or a team is indefinitely suspending someone who is not incarcerated and hasn't even gone to court yet. Does AP get to sue for lost wages if he's found not guilty?

What about lost wages with his contract with Nike or other endorsements?

I'm sure that really doesn't matter right now because the bulk of his money is coming from his contract with the team. But if he's convicted, the Vikings will most likely terminate his contract. There's no time frame on how long until he goes to his court hearing.

Endorsement contracts all have a morals clause that state the contract can be terminated or suspended even if he's not convicted of a crime.

Even if he's found not guilty the Vikings will most likely cut Peterson after the season, and they probably would have cut him after the season even if this didn't happen. He's due to have a cap number of $15.4 million next year, roughly $4 million more than any other running back, and barring another 2,000 yard season it's unlikely the Vikings would have paid that with Peterson turning 30. At the very least the team would have tried to restructure the contract at a much lower salary.
