I understand yes he probably did do that but until convicted he is innocent in the eyes of the law.

That's all good and fine if you're a lawyer or the owner trying to save yourself from a lawsuit but we're the public. Shoving leaves in a 4 year old's mouth while you beat him won't win you many people that are concerned about your weekly checks coming in. I'm guessing most of us want the Vikings to drop him for good.

Until last week I was a fan. His recovery from the ACL tear was amazing.

Deadspin published an excellent letter from a reader in response to the Adrian Peterson story. Great read. It's very long so I'll only include the link and summary of the reader's story. I think all too many people who were beaten by parents as children but turn out to have decent lives falsely credit their parents with "instilling discipline" in them through those beatings, rather than realizing they turned out successful in spite not because of them.

I've accomplished a lot in my life. I have a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in civil engineering from one of the best engineering schools in the country. I've completed more than one 1,000-plus-hour volunteer project for my town. I've hiked every mountain over 4,000 feet in New England. None of this was because of my receiving corporal punishment as a child; it was IN SPITE of it. The only thing "positive" I gained from being abused was that now, essentially, I'm emotionally cold, which helps in my industry (construction). Things can get heated on construction sites, and I am a pro at conflict, especially for a young man. Yell at me and insult me all you want—I can handle it and give it back with the best. Now, this isn't really a positive—it's really just me trying to take something positive out of a real bad situation.

Hitting children is one of the worst crimes humanity undertakes. It causes emotional and mental damage to people for a lifetime, and teaches children that violence is an acceptable way to get what you want. The only people who hit children are ignorant cowards who shouldn't be allowed around children.

I'm glad you've been giving this issue the exposure it needs. You're helping a lot of people like me and hopefully you're helping a few kids not get abused.

My parents abused me, and I turned out OK, not because they hit me—IN SPITE of them hitting me.

Source: Carolina’s Greg Hardy has agreed to be placed on NFL’s Exempt/Commissioner’s Permission List — the same list Peterson joined today.

I had never heard of the Exempt list before today and now a franchise player and the most popular running back in the league are on the list.

Yeah apparently it's some new special list teams can put players on while they're being investigated for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

For the second time today, a high-profile NFL player facing legal trouble has been banished from his team.

Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy will, like Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, go on the commissioner’s exempt list until is legal case has run its course. Hardy is awaiting a jury trial on a domestic violence charge.

“The Panthers have announced that DE Greg Hardy will take a voluntary leave of absence from team,” a brief statement from the team read.

Presumably Hardy agreed to the voluntary leave because the Panthers told him if he didn’t, they’d give him an involuntary leave. Hardy, who will continue to be paid his salary of about $770,000 a week, released a statement saying he accepts the decision.

“I understand that I need to step away from football right now and take care of this legal matter,” Hardy said in a statement. “I am entitled to due process and my day in court, and that’s where my focus should be.”

Although Hardy was convicted by a judge, the Panthers initially said they would allow him to seek a jury trial, as is his right in North Carolina, before taking any action. However, after harsh criticism following their decision to play him in Week One, the Panthers deactivated Hardy for Week Two. Now he’s done for the foreseeable future.

Looks like that announcement of an arrest may be a little premature. According to this article, he was pulled from practice to answer questions from Police about a possible Domestic Violence situation, but as of yet he has not been formally charged or arrested.

I'd say "wait and see" Not all domestic violence charges are created equal. For ever legit domestic violence charge like Ray Rice there are probably a dozen arrests where essentially nobody actually did anything wrong and the police just arrested somoene because they had to be called to a scene.

Even if he isn't arrested though, boy this type of publicity couldn't come at a worse time for the NFL.

Seriously. This is like the college player who flunks the drug test just before the draft. They know it's the absolute worst possible time and yet every year a couple guys still do it. This is the worst possible time for anyone in the NFL to get busted on domestic violence charges.

EDIT - this could be bad for Dwyer if in fact it's true the woman has actual physical injuries.

He's been arrested. Incident was in late July.

Phoenix police confirmed Dwyer's arrest, and he faces charges including aggravated assault causing a fracture, aggravated assault involving a minor, criminal damage, and preventing the use of a phone during an emergency.

Well it is hard to cover the NFL for just the on the field product these days when domestic abuse is becoming more of a problem every day.

Rice isn't a felon and AP might get off. Not sure about Hardy. The only one left is Vick TBH.
