If none of the NFC South teams make it to 8-8 at least give an AFC North team the spot. Best division in football right now.

It's a little disappointing if one of those teams finishes under .500, wins the South, and they get to host a Wild Card game at home against a winning team.

I know the urgency on winning your division every year, but possilby finishing .500 and then hosting a playoff game? Wow! Very interesting and exciting, but at the same time disappointing on the playoff format.

I still predict the Saints winning the South and getting least either an 8-8, or 9-7 record.

Regarding the AFC North, All 4 teams can finish above .500. Then 2, possibly 3 teams can miss the playoffs. I do agree though, best division in football today.

But this year, someone in that division will be lucky to make it to 7-9. We could be looking at a 10-loss team hosting a playoff game, and a 10-win team missing the playoffs.

I remember in 2010 when the Seahawks did it, people were pretty frustrated. There was talk of changing the playoffs to best record only.

I'm not saying this is the first time it's happened, and I'm not saying anything needs to change. But it's OK for people to be frustrated, and it's OK to complain about it. We're Americans, that's what we do.

I'm for the division champions making the playoffs no matter what. I wouldn't have a problem if they made a rule that a division champion had to have at least an 8-8 record to host a playoff game, or even if they just seeded the playoffs based on record where at-large teams could be seeded #3 or #4 if they had better records than the division champions, but I'm in favor of the division champions making the playoffs even if they only have 5 or 6 wins.

Theyll never make it best record cause then why even have divisions then ?

I think the best chance of a change is division winner still gets a playoff spot but then gets seeded by record so is not guaranteed a home game.

edit:
lol like what fate just said

The other change which this season is helping is adding a 7th seed cause a 10-6 is likely getting left out now.

I agree, the playoffs seeding needs to stay the way it is. I disagree with adding a 7th spot, though. That would mean 14 out of 32 teams make the playoffs. That's almost half.

Good for Jason Brown. Glad he's doing something that he feels makes a difference in his life.

Pro football player leaves behind $37 million contract to become a farmer

A NFL player has left behind his $37 million contract in order to do something he has never done before: become a North Carolina farmer.

According to CBS News, St. Louis Rams center Jason Brown quit football to be a full time farmer and now is on a mission to feed the state’s residents who are hungry.

Brown purchased 1,000 acres of farm land and has started growing crops like sweet potatoes and cucumbers.

“My agent told me, ‘You’re making the biggest mistake of your life,’” Brown told CBS. “And I looked right back at him and I said, ‘No I’m not. No I’m not.’”

Brown learned the tricks of the trade from none other than watching videos on YouTube, since he had never actually farmed a day in his life. He also spent time gathering advice from local farmers in Louisburg.

He is calling the farm, the “First Fruits Farm,” and as part of his plan, Brown is donating the first fruits of every harvest to area food pantries. He just recently finished his first harvest of a five acre plot of sweet potatoes; a whopping 100,000 pounds of food, which he donated to the needy.

He says his plan was inspired by God, and believes a life of service is much more fulfilling than his previous line of work.

“When you see them pop up out of the ground, man, it’s the most beautiful thing you could ever see,” Brown said, who says he’s never felt more successful.

With his farm he plans to make a dent in his state’s hunger population.

I applaud what he did but the article makes it sound like he left a high-paying football job to become a farmer. The truth is he was released by the Rams and didn't get a lot of interest in free agency, and was at the point of his career where any contract he got would have been for the veteran minimum with no guaranteed money and a high likelihood that he wouldn't make the team. It's still good that he's found something he enjoys in his post-football life that also helps others.

I'm definitely with ya on opposing a 7th team.

Not just for an excessive percentage in the playoffs, but I also think it distorts competition. In a 7 team setup, the #1 seed, and only the #1 seed, would have a bye to the divisional round along with homefield throughout. I do agree that in the current system, the #1-2 seeds have a considerable edge over the other 4 teams, what with a bye and homefield for the Divisional games, but for 1 team to have that edge over 6 others could really end up favoring a team with an easy season schedule. I also think that diminishing the differences between being #2 and less than that makes regular season games less meaningful.

I know that Goodell is pushing hard for this expansion, but from what I can tell, it because he;s got this look in his eyes:

I do think that a division champion should make the playoffs no matter what, but they just need to do some re-seeding.

The NFC South champ should get the 6th seed. It's stupid that teams with worse records are ever allowed to host teams with better records in the playoffs. The Niners even had the head to head tiebreaker.

For example, the 8-7-1 Packers hosting the 12-4 49ers last year... That's incredibly unfair IMO.

Devon Still's ex claims he's a deadbeat dad and won't pay child support. Then again Gloria Allred is involved so it may just be a shakedown.

EDIT - Ya, after reading more on this story it sounds like a shakedown.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/i-...icle-1.2024259

Quote:
Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still, whose relationship with his cancer-stricken little girl has been the NFL feel-good story of the season, is allegedly a deadbeat dad.

Still has not paid any child support for months for Leah Still, his sick 4-year-old daughter who was honored on the field during the Bengals’ 24-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns in Cincinnati earlier this month, according to Channing Smythe, Leah’s mother.

Civil rights attorney Gloria Allred, who represents Leah’s mother, delivered a letter to the NFL on Tuesday asking the league to investigate if Still has violated its Personal Conduct Policy by failing to pay child support for the girl, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare pediatric cancer in June.

“I don’t think it is fair that Devon Still, who is Leah’s father, has refused to pay any child support for her for the months of August, September, October and November of this year,” Smythe said in a declaration that accompanied the letter addressed to NFL vice president Jeffrey Pash.

Smythe said in her declaration that she is unable to work because Leah’s treatment and care require full-time attention, adding they would be homeless if a friend of her mother’s had not permitted them to move in with her. Smythe claimed she had to accept food stamps from July through October in order to feed herself and her daughter.

Smythe and Leah live in Delaware, and Smythe said she has to borrow cars from friends and relatives to take the girl to Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment.

“We are unable to take public transportation such as the train because of Leah’s low immune system and because of my desire not to expose her to others given her medical condition,” Smythe said.

Yeah, the second I saw that Gloria Allred was involved I stopped taking the story seriously. When you hire Allred it's because you want publicity.

Four teams is too few for a division. If they ever expand again 36 teams could get you six divisions of six.

I miss the good ole days with the AFC Central... Titans/Oilers, Steelers, Ravens, Bengals, Browns, and Jags. Damn Texans had to come in and ruin all the fun. Now we're in the most boring division in the NFL.

Idk who this lawyer chick is, but Saul is the man. Don't hate on him.

I'm worried this Better Call Saul show is going to suck... Breaking Bad is my favorite show of all time, so I'm definitely gonna give it a chance, but I'm not expecting much.

I don't think so but there's a good chance it's a Super Bowl preview.
