I hope Romo has a Romo kind of game.

I've been a Romo fan for years so I know him well and he's up and down. It'd be unlikely for him to have a bad game after how he's been playing and how our defense has been playing but..it'd be..nice

Just to see Seattle

What bs. Even if you don't want to look at his history, just look at the play in the context of the game. Everyone in the stadium knew Rodgers was not at 100% and could be playing with some sort of injury. Players start to smell blood in the water when someone is injured and there's no way he just accidentally backed into him.

Only thing separating Rodgers from the other top QB's is fewer picks. And he throws fewer picks cause he'd rather take a sack and get himself injured than throw a pick.

Rodgers did have a great season, but Jordy Nelson came free for 80 yard touchdowns seemingly every game.

JJ Watt is my mvp.

Nelson is amazing, the Packers' offense reminds me of the Cowboys' offense of the last 2-3 years - rides on the QB's arm and a shaky offensive line. Rodgers is a bit better than Romo though so that's definitely a factor.

you gotta give it to Rodgers......he's a smart player. I'd rather see a sack than int.

1: our offensive line has proven to be solid all season.

2: Rodgers is by far the better QB when discussing him and Romo.

When a QB can have one of the worst games of his career and still win mvp, there's really no hope for other positions.

JJ Watt's 2014 season is very comparable to his 2012 season. A season where unfortunately, Adrian Peterson tore up the league on the ground.

The last time a position other than quarterback or running back has won the MVP award in the NFL is in 1986 when Lawrence Taylor won it with the New York Giants at linebacker. The Giants also finished 14-2 and went on the win the Superbowl.

So, IMHO, I don't think it has anything to do with a QB having the worst game of his career or not, it's just become the "norm" with the NFL MVP. Doesn't make it right, doesn't mean JJ Watt is any less deserving, it's just the way it's gone for nearly 30 years.

The only feasible question in my mind is would the team have gotten as far as they did without the player? (Not concerned about making the playoffs or not).

What's more likely in the following scenarios?

1) The Houston Texans finish the season 9-7 WITHOUT JJ Watt

2) The Green Bay Packers finish the season 12-4 WITHOUT Aaron Rodgers

Unfortunately, I think the Texans would still have a record closer to 9-7 without JJ, and the Packers are probably 4-12 without Aaron. Making Aaron more "valuable" to the teams success.

Again, I'm not supporting the lopsidedness of how the NFL MVP award has been handled in the last 30 years. But to say because Aaron had his worst game in his career in a year he has been extremely valuable to his team just doesn't seem like a fair argument to me.

The Pack are not 4-12 without Aaron Rodgers. They went 3-4 in the 7 games he missed last year using guys like Tolzien. They can get at least 9 wins with Flynn at the helm. Flynn seems to suck everywhere except in GB.

A down year for Watt is a lost season for the Texans. The D outside of Watt is overrated, they have no QB, AJ has lost a step, and Foster can't stay healthy.

If the Texans had made the playoffs I would've said give Watt the MVP.

He's been the most dominant DL since Haynesworth was for us in 2007-2008... He was talked up as a potential MVP in 2008 when we went 13-3 as well.

Okay, so my 4-12 number was a "quickfire" number, and was meant only as an example. And though the Packers did go 3-4 without Aaron last year, that is in fact, last year.

Looking at this years schedule specifically, and in my opinion being extremely "generous" with what I think the results would have been without Aaron, I think the Pack finishes AT BEST 7-9.

IMO, Packers win/loss results without Rodgers in 2014:

Seahawks - Loss, Jets - Win, Lions - Loss, Bears - Win, Vikings - Win, Dolphins - Loss, Panthers - Win (very questionable), Saints - Loss, Bears - Win, Eagles - Loss, Vikings - Win, Patriots - Loss, Falcons - Loss, Bills - Loss, Bucs - Win, Lions - Loss. So, 7-9, and that's if they beat the subpar Bears and Vikings on the road (which I'm not sure of the likelihood of that either without Rodgers).

Hypothetically speaking, at 7-9, the Pack would have dropped 5 more games than they ended up losing this season. I'm not a huge Texans follower, but I don't think the Texans go 4-12 this season (5 games added to their final loss total and removed from the win column) without JJ Watt. Maybe a Texan fan can break it down game by game like I have above for the Packers and would be able to prove me wrong. I just don't see it....

Also, you say the Texans are a "lost" team without JJ, yet even with JJ Watt, they still were not able to have as much success as I believe the Packers (and some other teams as well) had success because of what their players brought to the team.

JJ Watt by all means is extremely valuable to the Texans. He is a defensive juggernaut. He deserves defensive player of the year, hands down. But, looking at the success of the teams as most valuable players, I'd give the MVP to either Aaron Rodgers, DeMarco Murray, Tom Brady, and though I hate saying it, I'd even give it to Tony Romo this year based on his game play, persistence, and overall contribution to the success of the Cowboys.

I thought Jedd Fisch's job would be in jeopardy if the Jaguars didn't improve next season, but now he's fired and Bortles will have to learn a new system going into his 2nd year. Not sure if this was the right decision here. Too early for change?

I agree with some of that but I doubt they'd be 7-9 without Rodgers. I'd say more like 9-7 without Rodgers. Let's face facts, the Pack have plugged in Flynn in the past when Rodgers was out and held up just fine. They have a good enough team even without Rodgers to crack .500. Flynn isn't great by any means, but he's capable of being efficient enough to keep a good team afloat.

MVP awards mean different things to different people. Most voters believe it should go to the "person most valuable to his team" (whatever that means considering it's difficult to judge) while others vote for the person they think was the best at what he does. I'm in the latter category, which is why I'd vote for Watts. They may as well just re-name the MVP award "most outstanding QB or RB" because essentially that's what it is. It's impossible for a defensive player to win.

An ESPN poll of 82 NFL players shows these are the 5 teams they'd least like to play for:

1. Oakland Raiders - 23%
2. Buffalo Bills - 19%
3. Cleveland Browns - 16%
4. Jacksonville Jaguars - 9%
5. Green Bay Packers - 6%

Green Bay at #5? Wow!
What is the turn off for the players, playing in Green Bay? The fact that the town owns the team?

I'm sure the fact that Green Bay is cold and the team plays outdoors is a big part, but my guess is the biggest turn-off is that it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere and players think they'd be bored. At least with the other cold weather teams you're in a fairly major city that has a decent night life.

That sounds about right. Heck, you'd think with the rate players are getting in trouble, these days, GB would be one of the better destinations!

It's not a very big area. Fantastic if you're into the outdoors but I can see why a lot of men in their 20's with millions of dollars would prefer more populated areas and/or fairer weather.

Money could also play a part. Packers are more interested in developing draft picks than spending money in the free agency. They won't reach for you.
