Giants fired DC Perry Fewell.

Quote:
Fewell, 52, worked under coach Tom Coughlin for 10 seasons, spending five in Jacksonville from 1998-2002 and the last five as the Giants' defensive boss. Fewell's Giants units were top-10 in yards allowed in 2010 and 2013, but were bottom-five the other three seasons. The G-Men were particularly bad against the run this past season, finishing 30th and surrendering a league-worst 4.9 YPC.

ESPN Giants writer Dan Graziano expects ex-Falcons coach Mike Smith to be a candidate for New York's defensive-coordinator vacancy.
Quote:
Smith is said to be "well liked and respected" by coach Tom Coughlin. The two have never worked together, but Smith took over as the Jaguars' defensive coordinator in 2003, the season after Coughlin was fired by Jacksonville. Graziano mentions Bills DL coach Pepper Johnson, Ravens DBs coach Steve Spagnuolo, Falcons DC Mike Nolan, ex-Raiders coach Dennis Allen, Bills DC Jim Schwartz, and 49ers DC Vic Fangio as other candidates for the Giants' DC gig.

A lot of candidates for firing their DC about 6 hours ago.

Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has left the NFL and taken the Georgia offensive coordinator job. Schottenheimer's offense with St. Louis finished in the bottom 10 in all 3 years of Schottenheimer's tenure, so this could be a situation where he left for a new job rather than being fired if the offense didn't improve next season. In 9 seasons as an NFL offensive coordinator Schottenheimer's teams never finished in the top 10 in total offense and only finished in the top 15 once.

That's indicative of Fisherball.

Not all Schottenheimer's fault... Our offenses almost always sucked until Fisher finally unleashed McNair. No doubt in my mind if Fisher had trusted McNair earlier we would've won back to back Super Bowls in 1999 and 2000.

Rex isnt a bad coach, he was good until your GM did stupid crap and didnt provide him with a team. letting Revis and Cromatrie go was just dumb.

I am it means he's a finalist. Hopefully one of the others wins out. Who fires a coach and hires a less successful guy that was fired?

No he's a half of a coach. One of the best defensive minds, but has no clue how to run an offense.

Rex Ryan is a good football coach, he will improve that defense immediately.

Browns, Raiders, Rams, Titans and Bears had less successful coaches than Ryan. 49ers coach left. Lions fired their coach?

I think if hired, Rex Ryan will turn that team around. You already have a franchise quarterback and top tier deep threat.
