I believe the whole thing came down to Belichick putting all his chips on his defense. They lost 2 SB's cause they ran out of time on offense so he tried something else this time. He's going by the never give up the TD when you're up 4 philosophy here.

If Belichick calls a TO after Marshawn Lynch reaches the 1 yard line with about 1 minute left, the Seahawks with 1 TO have enough time to either run or pass for the next 3 downs. They could run Lynch 3 straight times.

By not calling the TO, the clock ran down to like 25 seconds before the Seahawks finally ran a play. If they ran Lynch and fail, they have to use their final TO, pass on 3rd, and run/pass on 4th. If they pass on 2nd, they save their TO and they can run/pass on both 3rd and 4th down. They chose to pass which isn't that bad a decision except they should never have attempted it in the middle of the field. Throw a fade or option or some out route like you suggested.

So for Belichick, it was either use the TO's to save time for Brady at the cost of giving the Seahawks run/pass options on all three downs, or not use the TO's and influence the Seahawks into more predictable play calls. If the latter is what he did, that's a big risk that paid off. It's a huge coaching decision that isn't being talked about a lot right now because it was sandwiched in between 2 amazing plays on the field.

With 1 TO, Seahawks didn't want to be predictable on 3rd down so they became predictable on 2nd down. Belichick and his defense studied enough goal line plays to know that pick play could be one of them and that's exactly what happened. Belichick is smarter than everyone and is 10 moves ahead of them. Except for when he fails like 4th and 2, then he's an idiot.

Why? Because it's New England and they are largely relevant.

You say it like it's a bad thing, but it's not. Most of us don't care about the Browns, especially during the offseason. Most of us did care about the Patriots (good or bad) leading up to the Super Bowl that they were participating in.

If 2 movie controversies came to light this week, 1 about Space Truckers (1996 movie starring Stephen Dorff) and 1 about Avengers 2, which one would get more news?

I'm not saying good or bad. Just making an observation. This, initially, broke during the playoffs and we never heard anything about it. Yes, I know the playoffs were going on.
Even though there is no way to accurately measure this, I'd wager that IF Cleveland and New England were switched this season...we would still hear more about New England and "textgate" than Cleveland and "deflategate".
Certainly more than we've heard about Cleveland and "textgate" as it stands now.
I don't have a horse in the race, either way. Just making an observation.

Marijuana arrests are one thing, but Packers defensive tackle Letroy Guion took it up a notch last night.

According to Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Guion was arrested for felony possession of marijuana and a firearm, which will draw more attention than the weed itself.

Then again, it was apparently and allegedly quite a bit of weed.

According to captain Barry Warren of the Starke (Fla.) Police Department, marijuana charges in Florida are divided into less or more than 20 grams, and that Guion was packing “definitely” more than 20.

Police in Washington, D.C., have arrested Indianapolis Colts linebacker D'Qwell Jackson and charged him with assault after an argument over a parking space.
A police report shows Jackson was arrested on the misdemeanor charge Tuesday. The report says a driver told police that Jackson punched him in the face and the back of the head during a dispute over a parking space.WJLA-TV in Washington reports that the driver, who is a pizza deliveryman, told Jackson he would be in the spot momentarily, but the Colts linebacker got angry, told him to get out of the space and allegedly assaulted him.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports impending free agent Jordan Cameron is "not interested" in re-signing with the Browns.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Browns first-round CB Justin Gilbert was seen "more as a nuisance than an asset" by the end of this past season.

"He was routinely late, was a chronic knucklehead and rubbed teammates and coaches the wrong way," writes La Canfora, who has an excellent writeup on the new lows of the Browns at the link below. Gilbert, the No. 8 pick in last year's draft, was reportedly often late to games. He played just 373 snaps as a rookie and tumbled behind UDFA K'Waun Williams and fourth-rounder Pierre Desir. Much like teammate Johnny Manziel, Gilbert has the early makings of a bust.

Citing team sources, Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports the Browns will give "very strong consideration" to trading up for Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.

With the No. 12 and 19 picks, and 10 selections overall, the Browns certainly have the ammo for a move up, but it's possible they'd have to vault all the way to No. 1. ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported there's a "real sense" the Bucs are eyeing the Heisman Trophy winner. There will be lots of offseason noise about the Browns moving on from Johnny Manziel, but a serious move for Mariota is an unlikely avenue. If nothing else, the reports serve as a way for Cleveland to try to scare Manziel straight.
