Stay classy "gunslinger." Sounds like a jealous, bitter old man angry his successor already has as many rings as he does.

Now that quarterback Aaron Rodgers has propelled the Packers to their fourth Super Bowl title, his onetime Green Bay counterpart, Brett Favre, wonders why it took so long.

The iconic former Packer, speaking in a radio interview on Atlanta's 790 The Zone, said he always expected his previous untested understudy to become his equal in that most meaningful head-to-head statistic: Super Bowl rings.

"I'm going to be honest, I was not surprised," Favre, who won his only Super Bowl in New Orleans in 1997, said on Tuesday in the interview. "The biggest surprise to me would be that he didn't do it sooner."

"He's very bright and he got a chance to watch and see successful teams do it right," Favre said of his successor, currently among the league leaders this season with 12 touchdown passes and 1,325 yards passing. "And so he just kind of fell into a good situation. On top of that, he's a good player. I don't think there's any pressure on him now, the talent around him is even better than when I was there."

"Aaron had a chance ... even though the last couple years it's seemed like he's almost a rookie, he's been around a while," Favre said on the radio interview. "And I'd like to think that he watched, he learned, and then when he got a chance to play, he brought in his ability -- which is obviously very good or they wouldn't have drafted him in the first round."

Rodgers bided his time, then took over the starting job from Favre four years ago -- three years after being drafted with the 24th overall pick in 2005. After winning over skeptical fans and media opposed to his starting, he is now as revered in Green Bay as the guy who once wore No. 4.

"I'm really kind of surprised it took him so long," Favre said. "In the early part of last year season, it hadn't quite clicked yet, and I didn't know it would. I just kind of figured when they hit their stride, they're going to be hard to beat. And that's what happened."

funny read
Considering the Redskins haven't done diddly squat during Cooley's tenure in Washington he should probably keep his mouth shut, especially since it seems Fred Davis is the #1 TE in Washington now.

Not really, normally I wouldn't defend Romo any more but Cooley is not that good so he really shouldn't be attacking others. I'm not the huge Romo fan I've been for the better part of 5 years, all the failings he's had have finally gotten the best of me and I now think he needs to leave Dallas after this season.

I agree he's been mr fumble fingers for the past at least 3 years. I only like him cause he's funny on the local radio shows. Othwise he's been about as useless as Roy Williams.

When I read the story, I had the same impression. The audio clip doesn't sound as bad as it reads, though. It certainly sounds less rude.

Saints coach Sean Payton announced Wednesday that Marques Colston (collarbone) is "fully healthy," and his role will increase going forward.
"His role was limited last week but you will see his role increase," said Payton. "He is fully healthy." Colston was limited to 20-of-81 offensive snaps in Week 4 (24.7 percent), but he's going to be a full-time player soon. After turning in a full practice Wednesday, Colston is on track to regain his starting job. The Saints face the Panthers this week. Colston is probably now the best bet for production in New Orleans' wide receiver corps.

And I doubt he will so Dallas is stuck with Romo until his contract ends

For better or worse I think Romo is the Cowboys QB for many more years. Thing is I'm not sure Romo would fare better anywhere else. He's just not a clutch player and I'm afraid he'll always put up very good overall numbers but let down his team when big games are on the line. Whether he's playing for Dallas or some deadbeat team like Cleveland or Miami he's still going to fold under pressure. My guess is Dallas ends up with more 8 to 11 win seasons over the next few years with more Wild Card playoff exits. That's what Romo gets you.

Sanchez is like Romo but with less upside and is lucky that there are big personalities on the team (Rex) to take the spotlight away from his awful play

Detroit Lions 8 game winning streak dating back to last year (12 if you count pre season)

Sanchez is more like Grossman. Romo has bad moments, but not all around bad games like Sanchez and Grossman have every so often.

In an interview with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, free agent Terrell Owens said his "knee is doing great" and that he'll be ready to play football "in a month or less."
Owens just got back from Korea, where he underwent stem-cell treatment on his reconstructed knee. "Day to day, I've gotten better," said Owens, who estimated that he's currently at "Probably 75 percent. ... I'm gonna come back. I'm gonna be ready soon." Whether Owens will be able to find a taker is another story, but he sounds confident. Pushing age 38 -- Owens turns in December -- it remains to be seen if he has anything left after a torn ACL.

more interesting things from this season

some surprising top defenses in points allowed, Titans, Redskins, and Texans? lol Texans secondary single handedly lost games for them last season, remember that one guy batted the ball into the Jaguar's receiver's hands? unlucky

1. Titans 14 points allowed per game
2. Ravens 14.2
3. Redskins 15.8
4. Texans 17.5
5. Steelers 18

bengals lead the league in fewest yards allowed with 275 lol

Panthers and Eagles are actually #3 and 4 in yards on offense but both 1-3
Panthers probably had the worst offense in the league last year

Steelers have -10 turnover differential, nobody comes close except the eagles and broncos at -6

oh and 49ers lead the league at +8 turnovers

Harbaugh is a hell of a coach. He's going to build an empire in San Francisco, I would bet a huge sum of money on that. Just wait until he gets a few drafts under his belt.

No I'll be the first to admit we've played weak offenses. I'd say 15 would be a BIG improvement over 31/32 last year. 4 is really pushing this teams skill especially in the secondary.

DeAngelo Fall is a joke, Reed Doughty is more of a run stopper than a coverage guy so I agre. We'll see if you hold us to 18 again in the re-match at FedEx but I doubt it.
