Rachel Dolezal's brother maybe? Lol...

I just scrolled through Shaun King's Twitter... Holy crap. If I posted the stuff he's posting, I'd be fired and unable to find any job.

I heard audio of Jason Whitlock ripping him. It was great. Tore the dude apart.

King is a known race baiter and it's believed the whole reason the Manning article even came out was to take the story off of Newton.

Exactly!
I don't agree with all the decisions Goodell has made, but there's no doubt the guy as made the owners a ton of money, and that's his job.

Funny you mention "behind the scenes".

Just how much of what Goodell has done over the last year do you really even know about?

You assume he's bad because the stuff which goes public puts him in an unfavorable light. That's it.

The truth is you have absolutely no idea how good a job Goodell is doing or how well someone different would do. You just don't like him.

Bullsh*t, he has driven this league into the ground. There have been numerous gaffes during his reign of terror in the league, from rushing to judgment on fines and suspensions to botching the investigations for several scandals or "____gates" to the worst stretch of officiating the league has ever seen to the mess that is the rule book to ridiculous overseas games (although 9AM start times are a reason to start drinking early) and the list goes on and on. It barely resembles the game we all grew up with any more.

You can roll your eyes all you want, but popularity has nothing to do with the quality of the product on the field. I watched all season long, but was sorely disappointed in what my eyes saw on the field every week, week in, week out. Ask anybody who's watched the NFL religiously prior to Baddell coming into power...the Roselle and Tagliabue eras were arguably the best football in recent memory and during those eras, the Commissioner stayed OUT of the limelight...this jerk can't get enough of it. The product on the field now has taken a huge hit while at the same time the league has increased exposure and ultimately profitability by gouging their fans and charging an arm and a leg for gear, tickets and for some fans, PSLs.

Inelastic demand.

No one is going to stop watching because they hate Goodell. The numbers will continue to grow because they aren't losing fans, and naturally, with population growth, there are going to be a higher number of fans as the years go on.

The demand for the NFL will always be there no matter what Goodell does to screw things up.

Stop giving him credit.

Oh I have no doubt that's why he wrote it.

Just didn't know all he talks about in his personal time (Twitter) revolves around race.

That doesnt make sense.

The last few world series have been the least watched ever so how come your more population+ doesnt apply there ?

& if the play on the field declined so badly alot would stop watching example the pro bowl - but the regular season had its best tv season ever.

Apples and oranges...

You're really going to compare football to baseball? Surely you know better...

NFL has had a far bigger fan base than MLB for a long, long time. I'm not old enough to know how baseball really used to be, but I assume NFL has been more popular for my entire lifetime.

And since the steroid crackdown, MLB has taken a massive step back. It's not as entertaining anymore. Not that it ever was as entertaining to begin with IMO.

I played baseball for 8 years as a kid... But could never get into watching it.

Inelastic demand doesn't apply to baseball... The demand for it has decreased over the years. Not going to happen with the NFL... Unless it literally becomes flag/two hand touch.

But it's not apples/oranges.
We could bring up dozens of reasons for the declining numbers fr MLB: steroids, baby boomers, length of schedule, etc etc.
But in that same time, with a few of the same reasons, the NFL(under Goodell) has boomed! That's really not debatable. The concussion lawsuit alone could've been much worse. Sure the NFL will be paying that lawsuit for decades to come, but they got past it, and Goodell & Co. were a big reason why.
About the only thing that can be debated is your personal opinion of Goodell, which is fine. But to say the man didn't do his job and wasn't deserving a bonus in the eyes of his billionaire bosses is just being a tad shortsighted.
Again, I'm not in support of all the decisions made by Goodell, but I can fairly say the guy has done a very good job.
My only concern is the NFL might be too successful! As has been mentioned, the NFL is basically printing money at this point, and history shows that too much of anything over a prolonged period of time, can have dire consequences. Just makes me wonder when/if/how the golden bubble could burst, as it always seems to burst.

And the NFL under Paul Tagliabue boomed, and the NFL under Pete Rozelle boomed... sense a trend here? It makes absolutely no difference who the commissioner is. The NFL is going to continue it's unabated 40+ year rise in popularity regardless of who is commissioner. Bernie Madoff could probably run the NFL and be successful.

I get the impression the owners are unhappy with him but with the amount of $ rolling in, it's probably hard to justify a move. Just wonder how many fans feel like I do, that Goodell is making the NFL less watchable, it's part of why I find it so hard to care when the Cowboys suck. Overall product has diminished in quality since 1990.

For those interested, 2016 opponents strength of schedule based off 2015 record. You want to be closer to the bottom of this list.

Much of the NFC North at the bottom of the list due to the fact that they match up in 2016 against the 2015 worst divisions in the league (outside of their own division, that is)

[Show spoiler]T-1. San Francisco 49ers: 142-114, .555

T-1. Atlanta Falcons: 142-114, .555

3. Los Angeles Rams: 141-115, .551

4. New Orleans Saints: 140-116, .547

I agree, Goodell has had nothing to do with the uptick in viewership the last half decade. The popularity of fantasy and pickem leagues around the country and gambling in general is what has driven this sport bonkers in the rating department. Also the fact it is a once per week sport, is why it stands apart from every other major sports leagues.

Hell my 60+ year old step mother could careless about football until I got her into a pickem league, now she orders red zone every year and watches it every Sunday most times picking better then myself.

So when you ask yourself how the hell are these terrible Thursday night games pulling ratings that are better then all the other sport's leagues World Series, Stanley Cup or NBA Championship. It is because people are watching for their fantasy players or if they placed some money on the game imo.

Ok, then why all the grief that he's done a bad job, if in your opinion, he's just a talking head?
Let's not forget that Goodell was stuck with he concussion problem that was left to him from previous commissioners.
Again, if you don't like Goddell that's your opinion and you're entitled to it.
But there is more factual evidence the man did his job, and did it well enough to earn a hefty bonus, than to the contrary.

If you replace Goodell, what is the likelihood anyone put in that position would yield the same results?

Well there is a 100% chance Goodell will get replaced. No "if" involved.
When that does happen, I'd be willing to bet he will meet equal praise and criticism just like the three commissioners before him did.
