Rumor has it Bowles wanted someone who was not only a good runner, but more importantly a pass-catching threat out of the backfield...he's both of those. If anything, he's a max 2 year guy for us...it worked out pretty well with Thomas Jones and LT before him so why not.

don't know why i'm surprised that Thompson didn't make any attempts at filling any of our needs.

the funny part is it's the coach that's going to be fired if he can't win w/the players they have.

And the NYG land Vernon. My goodness, they have officially just won free agency. Good luck to NFCE QBs next season.

Oh, this trade ended up being beautiful. I was hoping we gave up no more than a 6th or 7th. It's even better... We didn't give up a draft pick. We swapped 4th round picks with the Eagles. They move to pick #97, we move to pick #110.

Good move by both teams That's pretty rare these days

You can't be mad at that signing. You've had nothing at QB for pretty much forever. Schaub had some good years, but he wasn't a franchise QB. I don't know that Osweiler is, but the contract is never as bad as it looks. The QB market is ridiculous these days. Bradford is a bust. Yet he still gets a huge contract.

As a Titans fan, it actually concerns me. Osweiler showed some real potential and I'd much rather take a chance on him than a QB in the draft.

I now have to hope Osweiler sucks... And I was honestly looking forward to his future in Denver. Damn shame.

I agree... They needed to move on from him and he needed to get out of there.

But... The Eagles could've done a better job negotiating. Surely they could've gotten a 6th or 7th out of us as I was hoping for.

Look what they did to the Dolphins! My god... Miami should truly be embarrassed right now.

Exactly. Plus, with the increased salary cap there's going to be lots of players being overpaid. We've seen it already today. If you're going to overpay someone on your team, why not your Quarterback?

You should count your blessings that this deal wasn't real. Nobody on this planet would believe Olivier Vernon is worth an average of $18-19mil a year.

And I was halfway hoping we'd sign him. After seeing the numbers, no thanks.

You guys are getting so much better, but I have to say I completely disagree with the Ivory signing. I think it would've been much wiser to have Yeldon enter the offseason as the starter and compete against a rookie.

You're now paying $6-7mil for a timeshare RB. That money could've been invested so much better. Just seems like you guys are ignoring the OL to me.

And if signing a top FA RB was that important to the Jags, they should've targeted Lamar Miller. Better than Ivory and similar price.

I think the Jets fans here will tell you Ivory was slipping towards the end of the season. From what I saw and heard from others, it didn't sound like he had much gas left in the tank in the last third of the season. So, that said, he does belong in a timeshare IMO. But $6-7mil a year? Way too much IMO.

NFL fined the Chiefs $250,000 and stripped them of their 2016 third-round and 2017 sixth-round picks for illegally tampering with Jeremy Maclin as a free agent last offseason.
Can someone explain this to me? What did the Chiefs do last year that was worse than the other teams (such as Miami & Suh)?

Anyway, it sounds like some sour grapes here. Would you have said the same thing if he went to a team outside your division? These guys realize that this is a business and that their time in the league is never guaranteed...it could all end on the next snap. While there are a bunch of guys that are extremely competitive and will take less money to win, the majority of them realize it's a job/career and are trying to provide for their families. You can't fault them for that.
Sour grapes? I am giving the Texans props for getting Osweiler and Miller. No sour grapes whatsoever. I hate it because they're a rival and they're getting better.

Osweiler just left the world champions who have the best defense in the league. I would've said it's an awful decision to leave Denver no matter what team.

As for the part of your quote I bolded, I'm going to be completely honest here... I HATE hearing that. It's an excuse we always hear when people chase more money. If you're making millions of dollars a year, an extra couple isn't going to be enough to say "well I had my family in mind and wanted to make sure I could provide for them." I call BS. They can use that excuse all they want, but average Americans make less in a lifetime than what they make in a couple games.

I assure you... It's as lame an excuse as you'll ever hear.

Osweiler was going to make PLENTY of money in Denver. It was reported he was offered in the $16mil range per year... Instead he went and took the $18mil per year deal. Pretty sure he could've afforded to provide for every single person in his entire family off of $16mil. Could retire after one year and still provide enough for generations. So yea, I hate that excuse. And I honestly can't believe people buy it.

EDIT: ~$16mil/year with Texans. Broncos offered ~$13mil/year. Still all the same, but figured I'd correct it.

It's a good problem to have when you're paying to keep players you've drafted and developed.

I hope we run into this problem in a few years with Mariota. But it's scary to think how ridiculous the QB market will be by then... Considering it's already horrifying.

Look on the bright side, you have him for at least 6 more years. Pick up his 5th year option and then tag him twice.

5th year option, sure. But the following year, assuming he's still considered a franchise QB, you sign him to a massive deal. Franchise tag would be a slap in the face.

You could tag him once just to prevent him from contract negotiations. Outside of that, no way.

I just hope we don't ruin him like the Texans did David Carr. We're not off to a good start. He was sacked more per game than any QB last year. And 90% of it was directly the OL's fault.

Ever since Kevin Mawae retired, we've had severe OL issues and haven't been able to fix them.

Better just throw out the playbook now, and have Murray sign off on a new one!
Because he will go into crybaby mode once things don't go his way!
Thank you so much for taking that horrible contract off our hands!
Maybe Murray finds his game again, but I'm thinking he won't!
