Manziel

Honestly, I thought he could have had moderate success in the NFL, at least as a back up but I underestimated how much of a distraction he would be. I guess we will never know.

No surprise, the lawyer who sent the text has withdrawn from the case.

RIP to Buddy Ryan. His family and friends will be in my prayers. One of the NFL's great innovators.

RIP Buddy Ryan. One of the great defensive minds this league has ever seen. I have lots of respect for this guy when he was in Philly and Houston in the 90's when I started watching football.

No doubt one of greatest defensive minds the game has ever experienced.
He will certainly be missed!

The Colts signed Andrew Luck to a new contract through 2021. The numbers aren't out yet, but it'll be very interesting to see how much he's getting. If he chose to Luck should shatter the record for guaranteed money, highest average salary, and biggest overall contract value.

Another bump for the QB market.

Saw this on Facebook. What does this even mean? The comment, not the Jake Plummer article.

So if a Hall of Fame QB says vaccines cause autism, this guy would listen?

Perhaps Oscar's then girlfriend hooked up with Jake?
He's been a tad salty ever since.

Andrew Suck might not even be a top 10 QB so I disagree with that contract 100%.

This contract money is getting so ridiculously out of hand.

How long until the NFL issues a lockout of players because the owners will need "help" like the NHL did to void these contracts

Fortunately the CBA that was signed in 2011 is a 10-year deal with no opt-outs, so there can't be a strike or lockout until 2021.

On the other hand, the NBA CBA that was signed in 2011 is also a 10-year deal, but either side can opt-out in 2017, and the players have already made it clear they plan to opt-out, which could lead to a strike and games being missed.

It's going to be a bloodbath when those negotiations start.

I've been saying it for a long time, have a slotted salary scale like rookies.
Sure it would be a massive overhaul and have its share of growing pains, but once in place salary caps would be much more manageable and you would not see these massive contracts doled out.
The present course would have to reach some sort of tipping point eventually.
As a bonus this could seriously devalue the use of an agent, who play a role in these contracts.

TOTALLY. I keep thinking that point is near...until I see the next ridiculously huge, sometimes unwarranted contract flickers across my Twitter feed.

We're closing in on a holiday weekend, which means it's time for the NFL to start doling out bad news. They announced today that Jets DT Sheldon Richardson has been suspended for the first game of the season for violating the personal-conduct policy and free agent QB Johnny Manziel has been suspended four games for substance abuse violations. Manziel likely has another suspension coming for violating the personal-conduct policy for assaulting his girlfriend, so there was already virtually no chance of him being signed before this suspension.

Thanks, I had not seen that. Not bad considering what a monumental jack-ass he was.
