Hypocrisy at it's finest. Where were his "beliefs" at that night club?

Roethlisberger isn’t living with fiancee because of religious beliefs

We knew Ben Roethlisberger(notes) was getting married. Now we know the particulars.

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback spoke for the first time this week about his upcoming nuptials. In an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Roethlisberger confirmed that he's engaged to 26-year-old Ashley Harlan, whom he met during training camp in 2005.

"We were kind of on and off for five years -- almost six years now -- so I've known her for a while," Roethlisberger told the newspaper. "It's not like a random new person. We dated awhile ago; we have been friends ever since."

Roethlisberger and Harlan became engaged around Christmas, but the quarterback refused to talk about the subject during the Steelers' run to the Super Bowl. The 26-year-old works as a physician's assistant in the cardiac surgery department of a Pittsburgh hospital. She attended St. Francis College, where she played softball.

The two are scheduled to be married on July 23, one week before the scheduled start of training camp.

"I think a small part of her is hoping we hold out for a week so we can honeymoon," he said. "I told her I was laughing with coach [Mike] Tomlin; he said 'You guys might have to have the honeymoon suite at Saint Vincent.'" (Isn't he not supposed to be talking to coaches?)

Another revelation in the lengthy interview was that Roethlisberger won't live with Harlan until the wedding because of their religious beliefs. She still lives at home with her parents in nearby Newcastle.

It was more than one incident. Mad the first part of the draft is on a Thursday night but not going to take off from work just to see the Cowboys pick at #9.

LOL good point.

The "religious beliefs" at issue here are the girl's and her parents', I imagine. I'm sure they're thrilled she's marrying this guy.... And she's just a genius for dating him on and off since 2005, and getting back together with him after all the stuff he's done.

Surrounded. By. Idiots.

The strike could last two years and the fans would still go running back to the NFL. What else do you think NFL fans would switch to - MLB, NBA or NHL? Ya right. Those are filler sports to occupy peoples' time when it's not NFL season.

I'm sure the money will help smooth over relations with his soon to be in-laws. Especially if there isn't a prenup. But think about it, if my daughter wanted to marry that guy, I'd have a cow!

The Sports Business Journal's Liz Mullen reports the NFL will request that the NFLPA resume mediation under Federal mediator George Cohen.
The owners' request is a response to a letter the players sent requesting that the NFL submit to federal court mediation, aimed at settling the anti-trust lawsuit. The league has no interest in negotiating a settlement, presumably because they don't want a federal judge overseeing the next CBA. With Judge Nelson strongly hinting that she agrees with the players on key points, the NFL may have missed its window to continue mediation under Cohen.

Not surprised in the least.

This marriage will last a few years tops. If Ben behaved badly back when he was in college and matured since I'd give him a chance. But this guy was still partying like a frat boy (and possibly raping women) barely a year ago when he was what, like 30? I see no reason to think he'll change his ways all of a sudden. His pattern of destructive behavior leads me to believe this will only end badly.

But I have a hard time feeling bad for this fiancee. The only thing I can think of is she's seeing dollar signs. There's no other explanation. Everyone, including his teammates, seem to think he's an immature douchebag. And lets face it, Roethlisberger is an incredibly ugly dude to top it off.

Someone had to say it.

You're totally right though, a lot of hormone infested teenagers have more maturity than this guy. I'd love to see him turn his life around for the better, but I just don't see it happening. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong for his soon to be bride's sake.

Attorneys for the owners and the players are slated for a 10:00 a.m. ET Friday conference call with Judge Nelson to discuss the possibility of mediation.
We're not holding out much hope for immediate progress, but Judge Nelson is at least known for "settling standoffs," per Judy Battista of the New York Times. The NFLPA stance is that the owners' offer to resume mediation under George Cohen "makes no sense" as collective bargaining between the two sides is "over." The players do hold the leverage right now, but they're also missing out on a chance to hammer out a favorable deal through collective bargaining in lieu of litigation.

Judge Nelson ordered the nfl & players to mediate "early this week."
Sources on both sides say this round of mediation "might lead to a deal."

Obviously this could fall thru too but its still the most optimistic news in awhile.
Someone mentioned over the weekend that Goodell doesnt want to get crazily booed at the draft so maybe thats something hes thinking about in trying to get a deal done before then....you never know.

Before the lockout began, Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett talked to a group of players who had remained in town since the end of the season. He stressed the need for the players to continue workouts on their own during the impasse.
Garrett brought a historical perspective to his words. He pointedly mentioned how the Washington Redskins won the Super Bowl during the 1982 and '87 seasons, each of which was interrupted by a strike. In each instance, the Redskins' players worked out together and were prepared when the regular season resumed.

"That reflected in their play on the field," Garrett said during a weekend coaches' clinic at the University of Tennessee.

TVGuide.com lists that time as the NFL Schedule Release Special. It makes sense because it was reported a week or two ago that the schedule would be released before the draft. I'm surprised the NFL hasn't started releasing the schedule on NFL Network.

God there's even a live season schedule release show for the NFL? What's next, a live airing of player's taking random drug tests?
