ESPN can pay Stephen A. Smith though. What a joke that channel has become. But that NBA deal where they got their heads slapped is fueling their success

That guy is just over the top annoying to me. He acts like an immature child at times.

At least Steven A., is interesting. Annoying, sure but he keeps people watching.
How in the hell is Michael Smith still employed? That guy can't even talk very well. He must have some good dirt on a corporate bigwig.

Anyone seen a demographic breakdown of everyone fired? I'd be very curious to see which demo got hit the hardest. Off the top of my head it looks like white male might be the leading category. Interesting, if true.

I stopped watching ESPN when they started reporting on what was going on with Terrell Owens and Brett Favre 24/7. I realized they were trying to create news/drama rather than just report on highlights and scores. Plus why would anyone watch Baseball Tonight (which shows the highlights of just a few teams then has a bunch of guys standing around talking) when you could watch Quick Pitch (which shows the highlights to every game with the same amount of time dedicated to each game).

Not even a question though they probably make up a large majority of the employee pool. I don't care if they hire a person that's purple as long as they bring something to the table. That's been the problem here is only hiring based on gender and race, actual talent and ability to actually do the job is a distant 3rd to this company right now which is a big reason for their troubles imo.

The NFL is allowing Mike Tirico to be the play-by-play announcer for Thursday Night Football games on NBC alongside Cris Collinsworth for the upcoming season. Last season NBC intended to use Tirico for TNF games in place of Al Michaels but their contract with the NFL required them to use their top announcing crew and the NFL wouldn't allow them to use Tirico in place of Michaels. Michaels and Collinsworth will continue to call Sunday Night Football games.

Oh come on... why ESPN? Clayton is one of their best analysts. I get that they need to layoff a lot of people but there has to be plenty of deadwood there before they get to Clayton.

Unfortunately that's what Americans largely want these days. They would rather have some nutjob like Stephen A. who yells about random topics to catch headlines and create controversy than a level headed, smart analyst. Jamele Hill is even worse with her columns. Goes without saying I'm not only talking about sports.

I'm right there with you Chad. I have no issue listening to a good debate but usually it just turns in to taunting & just general negative vibe.

They were fortunate they could get rid of him in a trade. They were going to release him after they drafted Jamal Adams and his 2017 salary is guaranteed so if they had released him they would have had to pay him almost $1.6 million (less any money he received if he signed elsewhere).

Glad they got something for Pryor since his days were numbered, but Davis, while good and adds LB depth, is 33.

ESPN doesn't even know their audience.

It would not surprise me in the slightest if Shaun King (race baiter, not the former QB who got fat) became a regular because ESPN loves losers like him.

ESPN keeps going down the drain. There's only going to be more layoffs cause they overpaid for NBA and NFL deals.
