How is it his fault he's sick of wasting away on a deadbeat team? This is the same franchise that so demoralized Barry Sanders that he retired young.

He should show up in the middle of training camp and say he wants to return. He'd be due his 2016 salary of almost $16 million and it would be very difficult for the Lions to get that much cap space. They currently have about $5.7 million in cap space so they'd need to gain roughly $10.2 million. Matt Stafford has a $22 million cap number but he's in the final year of his contract so lowering his cap number would require a contract extension and he's not giving any hometown discount. Johnson could also tell the Lions that if they don't release him he'll just retire again after they make the moves necessary to fit him under the cap.

If Johnson truly wanted out last year he should have told the Lions in February he was going to retire but not file any paperwork until training camp. That would have required the Lions to keep his $24 million cap hit and left them up against the cap and unable to sign any major free agents.

He chose to stay with Detroit... he could have gone to any other team

And there definitely some games he disappeared. I'm not taking anything away from his crazy talent, but let's not say stupid things when it's all said and done. His early years, yeah the Lions were quite the mess, but not in recent years.

He showed up to a few Raiders workouts a few weeks ago as a guest.
Wonder if he caught any passes from Carr? Honestly if i was an NFL player id quit before my 30s too. Im starting to feel it just from my non-contact athletic days

Oakland very well could be the second best team in the AFC and likely would have challenged the Patriots for a Super Bowl berth last year if Carr hadn't gotten hurt. They should be just as good if not better in 2017 with the additions of Marshawn Lynch, Jared Cook, and Cordarrelle Patterson. The Lions are a perennial middle of the pack team that hasn't won their division since 1993 or won a playoff game since 1991.

Yes but the Raiders finally had one good year.. with an easier schedule than most.

Say what you want about the Lions, and how we haven't won a playoff game or the division (can't argue either of those), but they've made playoffs in 2 out of last 3 seasons (last year being the first season without CJ), and new management has improved the team in and out. He simply gave up.

Oakland's defense is not good enough to be a realistic threat to New England. Comparing Oakland to Detroit is laughable though.

3 1:00 games which is 10:00am for them thats always tough

I was just having fun about the media running with Calvin's quote about how he would like to play with Carr. And him being at workouts. No big discussion needed

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with that line.

Yep. Schedule will be tough. AFC West/AFC East and the NFC East.

The 2017 NFL Supplemental Draft has come and gone.

As expected, no one was picked in this year’s Supplemental Draft. There was hardly any buzz about it heading into today, and it would have been a major surprise if any players had been selected.

Only two players, Georgia Military College defensive end Tavares Bingham and Western New Mexico running back Marques Rodgers, were eligible for the Supplemental Draft. They both now become free agents.

The Supplemental Draft used to be a big deal, but that’s no longer the case. In the last five years, only one player — Isaiah Battle of the Rams in 2015 — has been chosen in the Supplemental Draft.
