Christian Hackenberg started Saturday's preseason game against the Lions, completing 2-of-6 passes for 14 yards.
Hackenberg was removed at halftime. Named a "surprise" starter by coach Todd Bowles, Hackenberg played jaw-droppingly bad football worthy of sympathy. He took two thundering sacks and let a ball squib out of his hand, "generating" -3 yards of passing offense. His "completions" were a pair of checkdowns to Bilal Powell. It's true that Hackenberg received zero help from his offensive line or "weapons," but once again, he looked completely lost on the preseason field. The Jets hid Hackenberg, a second-round pick, as a rookie because he wasn't ready. The year in mothballs did nothing to make him better, or counter his awful college film. The Jets have an albatross of a pick on their hands. It's frankly inexcusable considering Hackenberg's résumé coming out of Penn State.

Hackenberg was predictably awful, completing just 2-of-6 passes for 14 yards before bowing out at halftime. The Penn State alum has made shockingly little progress since arriving as a second-round pick last season, though Bowles said Saturday's clunker wasn't his fault. "They really didn’t give him a chance," he said. "I don’t think anybody can have a chance when we’re blocking like that." Adding to the dysfunction, likely Week 1 starter Josh McCown was instructed not to speak with reporters after Saturday's game. The Jets are a hot mess in all facets.

Haven't even seen last night's debacle and don't want to. In the span of just one week, they have gone from "Wow, Hack looked decent and the defense could keep them around in games, there's a potential 6-win season in there somewhere" to a total dumpster fire. What a mess this "organization" is from top to bottom. This coming season might just do me in.

we're really going to depend on our rookie CB and S this year to solidify our secondary. Neither have played in the preseason yet.

Offense looks amazing. Mack looks amazing. Secondary sucks. So far no change from last season at all for Oakland!

Great player for a long time and a great person. Doesn't have the numbers, but he did get the Ravens a championship that he was largely responsible for. Maybe he can get in one day as a seniors candidate.
