The players are free to protest, but fans are free to boycott if they choose to. The freedom should go both ways. We have seen this played out many times before: celebrity makes political statement, fans complain on Facebook and boycott said celebrity's products, after a while everyone moves on. If NFL were to go down hard, it would be due to the CTE issues and declining quality of the games.

EDIT: Just saw Jerry Jones and company do the kneel-down, but not during the national anthem. That's a good compromise, I guess. I'm glad they handled it with a little finesse -- much more finesse than the president showed (as usual), that's for sure.
