Polamalu punching the ball forward causing a safety was against the rules, yet it is not reviewable? What happened to EVERY SCORING PLAY IS REVIEWED?

Seems like the refs only follow rules they want to, when they want to.

Dumb semantics question here, but I'm genuinely curious.

Is a safety even considered a scoring play? I could see arguments for it being defined either way in the NFL rulebooks.

According to what I've heard them say during games, any play that puts points on the board is a scoring play. Therefore, that play SHOULD HAVE been reviewed, and overturned. Once Polamalu knocked it out of bounds it should have been a dead play, not Steeler points.

Polamalu punching the ball was a penalty, which is not reviewable. Even though Polamalu clearly made an illegal play by punching the ball it wasn't called on the field so there was nothing the ref could do. The only reason they reviewed to play was to see if a Steeler had recovered the ball in the end zone (which would have made it a touchdown) or if the ball had gone out of the end zone for a safety. During the game Jim Nantz thought they could call the penalty when they reviewed the play but Phil Simms was correct in that it the penalty could not be called after replay.

There are only a few examples of penalties that can be called via replay. One is if a team had too many players on the field. Another is if the quarterback threw the ball past the line of scrimmage. Another is whether the ball went 10 yards on an onside kick before someone on the kicking team touched it. Also pass interference can be overturned if replay showed the ball was tipped by a defender.

That is absolutely retarded. Basically, as long as it isn't called you can cheat all you want. The NFL themselves have stated any scoring play will be reviewed. Safety or TD, it's still a SCORING PLAY. The more they let crap like this happen the less people will like it.

I know everyone will say NFL is too popular, but that has been said on tons of issues, and one day, I hope to see the breaking point.

Patriots WR/KR Julian Edelman will be arraigned on charges of indecent assault and battery in Boston Municipal Court Tuesday.
Per the Boston Herald, Edelman allegedly "reached under" a woman's party costume and grabbed her between the legs while on the dance floor. The incident occurred in a Copley Square bar. Edelman has appeared in four games this season, catching three passes and serving as the Pats' primary return man when active. He was a healthy scratch in Week 8.

A look at the scheduled NBC games and the games they could be flexed out for:
Week 10: New England at New York Jets definitely won't be flexed.

Week 11: Philly at New York Giants: Could be flexed but even if Philly keeps playing like crap could remain the Sunday night game because it's 2 big market teams. The Cowboys-Redskins and Chargers-Bears games are protected so it would likely be replaced by Packers-Bucs or Ravens-Bengals.

Week 12: Pittsburgh-Kansas City seems like a likely candidate to be flexed out but it's Thanksgiving week so there's 3 games on Thursday. Patriots-Eagles and Bears-Raiders are protected so it's possible this could be flexed out for Bills-Jets or Bucs-Titans, but it's not out of the question this game could remain because Pittsburgh gets good ratings.

Week 13: Indy-New England is likely to be flexed. The Jets-Redskins and Packers-Giants are protected so the most likely replacement is Lions-Saints.

Week 14: Giants-Dallas is unlikely to be flexed even if one of the teams is out of playoff contention. Dallas always draws well regardless of their record. Patriots-Redskins is the only protected game and the only game I could really see being flexed is Raiders-Packers.

Week 15: Baltimore-San Diego is likely to remain as long as both teams remain good. There is no great replacement as Jets-Eagles and Redskins-Giants are protected. The only matchup that looks like it could be good is Lions-Raiders.

Week 16 is Christmas day and the NFL said before the season that Bears-Packers won't be flexed, not that NBC would want to replace it.

Week 17 is chosen by the NFL and if possible will feature a game in which both teams need a win to make the playoffs or keep/improve their seeding. No games are protected.
I would say that your list is almost spot on. Lions Saints/Oakland, with the way the Lions and Oakland are playing likely to be flexed, Bills vs Jets, Bills are a surprise and they need a National Game as per the laws of the Network contracts. Philly and Giants are likely not to be replaced, to much hype around Philly, and as for Week 17 you could be seeing Lions vs. Packers for the NFC North, depending on how Thanksgiving goes.

Wow 3 potential Lions games on Sunday nights... that is scary considering the past 11 years they have been the joke of the NFL

Well I knew Big Ben Rapistburger got a free pass every offseason for his "transgressions", but I though by opening day they had to fall in line like everyone else.

Makes me glad to see that Harrison and Woodley will be out Sunday night. Gives all the squealers fans something to point at when they lose.

I wouldn't call a 4 game suspension to open the 2010 season a free pass, especially considering he's never been charged with a crime.

Seattle did beat the Giants earlier this season and the Cowboys are coming off a game in which most of the players gave no effort, I could easily see that snowballing into a loss, which will end any chance we have at the play-offs.

A team that hasn't been consistent at anything but inconsistency since the 2009 regular season is suddenly going to catch fire over the second half of the season? I'll believe it when I see it.

They won't beat Dallas and you know that. You're still pissed about the Eagle loss. You do realize the Giants will be 5-6 or 6-5 a month from now...just sayin'. Both of Seattle's quarterbacks are hurt and they're not the same team that won at the Meadowlands. Cowboys by 17...at least.

The Steelers usually get a pass from the refs with crap like this, remember that game Ben said "He had a TD" when he clearly did not and the ref said ok ben we believe ya!

I think it was a fins game.

Appearing on NFL Network's Around the League Live, Jason LaCanfora suggested Mike Tolbert (hamstring) will resume starting and "get a lot of carries" this week against the Packers.
While Ryan Mathews' (groin) status is "up in the air for right now," the Chargers "feel good" about Tolbert being able to play this week. Tolbert will have to pass tests on Wednesday, but it sounds like he's being counted on as the primary runner for Week 9. The San Diego Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee confirms that Tolbert "should be good to go" whereas Mathews is a question mark.
