I don't think it's too far out of line to say early success can be overshadowed by prolonged mediocrity afterwards. I dunno enough about Barber to say that's what happened to him specifically, but in theory it's not wrong.

Barber is good no doubt about it, but he also had the luxury of playing with another HoF candidate: John Lynch.
Who did BDawk have? Lol, answer: NOBODY!
Can the casual fan even name 6 Philly DBs?
Dawkins got it done all by himself, the original Island.
I’m guessing some voters don’t want to push two TB DBs through at the same time.

Edit: Lynch should get in for the Jimmy G trade alone! Lol!

Dawkins is a legend, easily will make the HOF. Honestly surprised he didn't get in first-ballot.

I would still be okay with Owens being a posthumous selection.

If he had a ring, he might have gotten in last year.
This year is going to be tough. Lewis and Urlacher are locks. I think Hutch is as well. So that leaves two spots. No way Moss gets in before Owens. So maybe they both get in? That would be the five for this year.

Moss always struck me as a more dominant player than Owens, even when you factor in the lost years in Oakland.

Barber shouldn't get in before Atwater, Lynch, or Dawkins maybe even Darren Wooden and LeRoy Butler. Both made equal or more All Pro teams. Then Reed and Polamalu will be eligible in a few years as well. So he wasn't better than any of those safeties.

Name me another CB who had 25 sacks and 25 INT. I'll wait....

Compare the numbers between Everson Wells and Ronde Barber and explain how he's a finalist and Ronde is not.

Walls have 57 INT and led the league in that category 3 times. Barber didn't play safety so I shouldn't have compared him to safety but I was piggy backing off of what another poster was saying about safeties.

Anyway I don't know we should be judging CBs on how many sacks they got. Barber played in an era where CBs did that a little more and a much more aggressive defense than Walls did. I just feel Walls deserves it more but it's close. If you want to compare those two.

3 All-Pros for Ronde vs 1 for Walls
47 INT for Ronde vs 57 for Walls
12 TDs for Ronde vs 1 TD for Walls
28 sacks for Ronde vs 3 sacks for Walls
15 forced fumbles vs 0 forced fumbles for Walls

How exactly is Walls more deserving again?

Let's also not forget he is the iron man for the CB position. Started 200 consecutive games at CB, which is the longest in league history

Like I said they were asked to do different things. SO the sack stat is not relevant. When did they start keeping forced fumbles as a stat? Walls actually had 2 in his career in his last year. I'm not sure how many Walls had in his career.

That's not how it works; Onus is always on the accuser; the one making the claim has to prove it.

My order of QB starter preference

1) Sudfield
2) Pederson
3) Blount
4) Foles

Gonna need zero penalties, turnovers and epic D/ST to have a chance.
Wait a tick: Blount has QB experience? Or did he throw a pass as a part of a trick play in a game once?

If there were still front office people from that era who drafted or coached TO he may had a chance to have his number retired here but the franchise moved on when he left and burned bridges. Lots of other players have worn 81 since he left and I don't see that changing. I was surprised he was actually acknowledged by the team at all. A day or two ago on the teams Facebook page they posed the question as to whether he should be inducted. Of course there were a lot of "no he was a jackass" comments but by and large it was a "yes, his numbers say he deserve it" consensus, which is where I land.
As far as the franchise acknowledging it's legends in general, a lot of Bay Area reporters and the legends themselves were talking about how the York-Baalke regime wasn't showing them a lot of love and respect but with York less meddlesome these days and Lynch and Shanahan running things it looks like that has changed. Lynch played in the same general era as TO so who knows if any of that changes.

It's ok to admit you're wrong. You're such a Cowboys homer lol. I guess we are going to gloss over the 12 TDs Ronde Barber had.

You can check out the stats. https://www.pro-football-reference.c...W/WallEv00.htm

It's no contest really.
