Last year Pittsburgh reportedly offered Bell a 5-year, $60 million deal with $30 million due in the first 2 years and $42 million in the first 3 years. A $12 million average would have been almost $4 million more annually than the next highest-paid back (at the time LeSean McCoy was the highest-paid at $8.01 million, since passed by Devonta Freeman at $8.25 million). If Bell plays another year on the tag he'll only make $26.6 million over those 2 years, and even if he stays healthy the market might not be as robust as he hopes for a running back who will be 27 with a lot of wear on his legs. The Steelers offer was more than fair and while they'll likely try to sign him long-term they'll have no problem calling his bluff about retirement and tagging him again.

ESPN announced that Matt Hasselbeck is calling the Pro Bowl with Sean McDonough. I wonder if this means he's the frontrunner to replace Gruden for Monday Night Football and if this is an audition of sorts.

ESPN Giants reporter Jordan Raanan reports Patriots DC Matt Patricia is the "favorite" for the Giants' head-coaching job.

Less than a week ago, PFT reported the Patriots expected Patricia to take the Lions' job, reuniting with GM Bob Quinn. Things have appeared to change course over the last 48 hours, with Patricia now the clear favorite in New York. Per Raanan, the Giants are down to Patricia, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, and Vikings OC Pat Shurmur. Patricia is 43 and has never been a head coach

Bills fired OC Rick Dennison.

Dennison lasted just one season as the Bills' offensive play-caller under first-year coach Sean McDermott. The Bills were 29th in total yards under Dennison, 22nd in points per game, and 31st in passing. Buffalo did manage a sixth-place finish in rushing offense, but it wasn't enough to save Dennison his job. A Gary Kubiak disciple, Dennison has been involved in a ton of great rushing offenses. And it's hard to fault him for the passing struggles when there were no weapons to speak of, though Dennison very much could have done a better job designing an offense to cater to Tyrod Taylor's strengths. The Bills will likely usher in a new quarterback to go along with whoever they choose as offensive coordinator.

I think the fear with Riddick is he might not stay for the long haul. He's been open about his desire to be an NFL GM and has had multiple interviews in the past and ESPN is likely looking for a long-term solution.

Larry Fitzgerald remained noncommittal Friday when asked about his plans for next season.

"I don’t have any timetable," said Fitzgerald, who is in Orlando for the Diamond Resorts Invitational. "I’m going to play golf tomorrow. On Tuesday, I’ll play golf again. Wednesday, I’ll play golf. Thursday, I’ll play more golf and we’ll figure it out as we go." Fitzgerald showed he still has plenty left in the tank by finishing second in the league with 109 catches this past season. The 34-year-old should make his decision sometime after the Cardinals select a new head coach.
