In most cases I'd say that's a ridiculous amount of money for a QB with such a limited body of work. But in this case I think the Niners probably made the right move. I would be shocked if Jimmy G isn't at worst an above average starting QB, possibly a superstar. Still can't believe the Pats gave him up for peanuts.

They waited too long and lost leverage.

I think it was a matter of not wanting to give Jimmy G the 'franchise' tag where he'd be making a boatload of money holding a clipboard, and where those resources could be used on other positions. It was a tough call for the Pats to make, because on one hand, keeping Jimmy G would've been a relatively smooth transition once Brady retires (possibly even something along the lines of 'Favre-to-Rodgers smooth', where the Packers didn't really miss a beat), but after he threw for over 500 yards in a Super Bowl at the age of 40, who knows when Brady's going to retire?

Jimmy wanted his chance to start, and he knew that wouldn’t be in New England. You can’t blame him, he’s showing a lot of really positive signs.

As a Niner fan I am excited about signing Jimmy G long term. When you find a good QB, you got to hold on to him. It's been years since the Niners have had a good/great QB, Young was the last one. Garcia and Smith were decent/serviceable at best, Kaep was a flash in the pan but now we fill the biggest hole we've had for years. Niners have been playing so far under the cap over the last few years and will still have decent money to sign other players if they wish but the team is more looking to build thorugh young players and the draft rather than sign big free agents. O-line is good, receivers are good, RB situation is good, D is good, so the future is looking bright. Glaring holes are really in the secondary so hopefully they can draft well there.

Vikings are hiring former Eagles’ QB coach John DeFilippo as their OC, per source.

I think one or more teams probably did offer the Pats more than a 2nd round pick. I'd be shocked if nobody offered them at least one 1st rounder. Hell, the Browns tried to trade a 2nd and 3rd round pick for McCarron, who nobody believed was better than Jimmy G. My guess is they took less to ship him off to the NFC.

If Jimmy Garoppolo completes his new $137.5 million contact, he will earn more in five years than the $135.4 million that Tom Brady earned in his first 14 NFL seasons.

ESPN Titans reporter Cameron Wolfe predicts Tennessee will release DeMarco Murray this offseason.

It's a logical -- and expected -- move that will save the Titans $6.5 million against the cap in 2018. Murray was great in 2016 but battled injuries all of 2017, missed the playoffs, and turns 30 next week. Derrick Henry will then be freed up as the unquestioned lead back, while the Titans can add a third-down, pass-catching type to complement him under new OC Matt LaFleur.

That could prove to be the gem of all the coaching hires. I was hoping someone would take Reich and Philly could promote Flip to OC. Can’t thank the guy enough for all he did, and sad to see him go.

He already was busted for plagiarism. What hacks are the Boston rags hiring up there.
Geeez, even the print Boston media is showing cracks in the foundation!

The Vikings denied the Giants permission to interview QB coach Kevin Stefanski for their OC position. That's pretty crappy of them. First they pass him over for their own OC opening, then they deny him career advancement elsewhere.

Myself as well but I've heard nothing that would make me think this could happen.
