These things are always going to be a gamble but it's the most important position in the league and we haven't had anyone truly great since Steve Young. When you find the one, you lock him down!
IF he does regress, which I don't think he does, but if he does I would only see him regress to mediocre level, not terrible, but even then mediocre can get you by with a solid defense and a running game and there will always be another team out there in a worse off position at the QB spot who would be willing to take him off your hands.
And look at where the market is going for QB contracts, even for the playoff unproven, no where but up. If they franchised him this year and assuming he performed well next season, which is likely, the price to lock him down next offseason is just going to go up. This was just the prudent move all things considered.

rickah - I assume you are talking about Reid. I read that ESPN article this morning and while I do like him, I respect but don't necessarily agree with his opinion. He himself stated earlier this year that he knew his kneeling could be an issue come FA but I think the reality is finally settling in for him. I do wish the Niners would re-sign him but I absolutely understand why they, or any team for that matter, would not. It's not necessarily just about politics but some teams just don't want the headache associated with it. It's not a matter of pipe down and fall in line, more like "come on man, can you just do that on your own time? we're trying to run a business and this is not the place for it". I find that much more likely then a whole league of owners colluding against him or Kaep. If either of them were absolute superstar players this wouldn't be an issue either because the owners would put up with it to an extent. I know the league gets a wrap as being an old white guys club but I doubt every single one of them hold lock step "conservative" political views. So annoying
I was stating that about anyone. I’ve always stated that if these guys want to make a political statement, that’s great, just do it in the proper arena.
Should be interesting to see what Reid does. So far, the market has spoken.

Cousins was going to get paid either way, Minnesota has a lot more going for it than Arizona. Better defense, better WR/TE and better coaching staff. Both had a good RB coming off an injury so that might be a push. OL might be a push. Minnesota probably has a slightly better coaching staff. Not sure, but Minnesota might be a younger team, on average.

Why does this not surprise me. Grants deal was voided minutes after it was known Crabtree was going to be available.

Unless you’re a politician, politics should remain out of the work place.

I feel it’s unfair to push your agenda, whatever it may be, on fellow coworkers.

I've always been told to keep religion and politics out of the workplace and i agree with this 100%

Ryan Grant is a 3/4, Crabtree is a 1/2. so that's not a surprise.

Crabtree is a solid #2. No way he’s a #1.

He's still easily their best receiver, we may see a rejuvenation of Joe Flacco with the arrival of Crabtree and the return of his #1 TE.

Lol, just because he might be the best on that team, doesn’t make him a legit #1. Of course it’s all opinion anyway...in mine I believe there are maybe 10-12 legit #1’s in the league.

There's very few receivers in the league that are true #1s. Alshon Jeffrey is right on the edge...Dez hasn't been one since 2014.

I would include Dez in that dozen, not Jeffrey though. Only problem with Dez is he doesn’t have a good QB.

Going to miss that guy! He was a great locker room presence for Philly. Wish him all the best. Wish they could’ve kept him, but no way they would pay him that much.
Now let that high salary, along with other Philly departures, help with the compensatory picks!

The relationship Beane and Gettleman have is very strong. Very logical trade partners if both desire to make a move
