I agree with you on the smokescreen surrounding Allen. I think they want to woof him up to get someone to trade up to 4 as well as drive the price of the pick up. It wouldn't shock me in the least to see the Browns trade out of the 4 spot.

With that said, given that NYG really likes Darnold, the Browns could send out signals that Darnold is their guy, squeeze a pick out of them, and take Mayfield at 2.

In what seems like a past life ago (1991-1993), I was stationed at what was once Griffiss AFB in Rome, NY, and my dorm neighbor was a guy from Buffalo, who obviously was a huge Bills fan (and this was during the Jim Kelly/Thurman Thomas/Bruce Smith years). Since then, I've adopted them as my 'second team' (the fact that Ralph Wilson voted against Modell moving to Baltimore also earned huge points in my and many other Browns' fans books).

Long story short, I think a deal between the "Lake Erie brethren" could easily be reached.

The Browns have actually considered taking two quarterbacks

It has been suggested, mostly as a joke, that the Browns could ensure that they’ll get a great quarterback by using both the No. 1 and No. 4 overall pick on that position. Apparently, it’s not as big of a joke as many had believed.

Kevin Clark of TheRinger.com reports that the Browns have “thought about it, discussed it, and investigated it.” The work progressed to the point where one unnamed source with whom Clark spoke was able to “rattle off every previous instance of teams drafting two passers high because he’d done the prep work on the idea.”

The thought process doesn’t only mean that that Browns could take a quarterback at No. 1 and No. 4. They could trade down from No. 4 and take a quarterback later in round one. They also could take a second quarterback with one of the other picks they hold in the first 64 selections (five in all) and in the first 123 picks (eight in all).

I'm against taking a QB in the first round as it is, but two!?

I know they'll draft one (I still don't accept it, but I've come to terms with it) - but at least do what Washington did. They took RGIII #2 overall, and also selected Kirk Cousins at #102 in the 4th round.

The trade-down scenario makes more sense. Honestly Buffalo trading #12 and #22 to go up to #4 would be a solid move for both squads.

The Cowboys drafted Aikman with the #1 pick, then gave up a pick to take Walsh in the supplemental draft which ended up being the next year's #1 pick too.

Also, Brandon Marshall failed a physical and has been released by the Giants.

That could be the real reason why Dorsey didn't bring Barkley/Chubb/Fitz in for a pre-draft visit - Browns plan on trading #4 and they know that none of those three will still be on the board at #12.

I didn't realize Marshall hadn't been released yet. I just figured he was released months ago since there was no way they were keeping him with a $5.5 million salary. Probably time for him to call it quits and go to TV full-time.

I think the scenario they're referring to is something similar to what WAS did. I can't imagine them taking, as an example, Darnold #1 and then coming back with a trade down from #4 with BUF to take Lamar Jackson with the #12 pick.

Maybe if Ray Farmer was still GM two QBs in the first round could happen, but not with Dorsey. Of all the GMs the Browns have had since the return, Dorsey's track record is one that I have more confidence in than any of the others, and certainly more than recent vintage (Farmer, Banner, Heckert, etc.)

I think this is realistic. In that scenario, I also think the Browns are hoping Denzel Ward lasts until 12, which would be terrific.

While true, that certainly doesn't mean Barkley/Chubb/Fitz are off the board.
