AFL is near death. It's down to 4 teams, all in the northeast. The CFL is doing fine in Canada but it's still an afterthought in the US for the most part.

This USA Today article is from April, but it's an interesting perspective. It's about four draft bust QBs -- Joey Harrington, Kelly Stouffer, Heath Shuler, Akili Smith -- giving advice to this year's QB class on what to do and not do.

Speaking of CFL, QB Josh Freeman was attempting a comeback with the Montreal Alouettes but found himself at the bottom of the depth chart, so he quit instead.

Have to wonder if that hack Greg Schiano screwed up Freeman's course trajectory.

It is just amazing that none of the QB needy teams signed Bridgewater as a 2 who could compete to be a 1. Huge missed opportunity. A number of teams that will regret that. I’m told he has looked outstanding. This will be a different version of Dion Lewis if he stays healthy.

If you are counting the early years of Rugby playing as "CFL" then you probably have to count the Pennsylvania area pre-NFL stuff as well.

In any case, the stuff played in the 1800s was pretty much straight up Rugby. The CFL itself recognizes its start as being in 1958.

I love that the NYJ snagged Bridgewater on such a cheap deal, I really liked him coming out of college. I love his athleticism so hopefully he supplants McCown as #1 which frees him up to mentor Darnold.
