lol somehow forgot about Mahomes, he definitely has potential as long as this season isn't a flash-in-the-pan. I hope Mayfield can continue playing at a high level. Not a Browns fan and I have no real allegiance to Cleveland (if anything I'm a casual Ravens fan through my cousin), but it's nice to see the Browns turn things around after such a long time.

I'm fully aware that mental health issues are a big problem, but I'm referring to Josh Gordan's situation specifically. He violated a policy he agreed to 5 times and now facing the possibility of never playing another down in the NFL, he wants to cite a mental health problem. Has he ever said/admitted to having an substance abuse problem? Addiction isn't always the result of a mental health issue. Do you consider the millions of people addicted to nicotine to be mentally ill? How about caffeine? Because those are real addictions too. The lack of sympathy is partly due to people making false claims to avoid the repercussions of their actions.

I read that Gordan announced he was stepping away before the indefinite suspension was handed out. If true, this leads me to believe that he knew what was coming, hence why I said it was a PR stunt used for damage control in my opinion.

How many places give you 3, 4, or 5 chances to keep your job? Most places of employment have a zero tolerance policy to substance abuse and you're lucky if you get a second chance. In the end, he's the one responsible for throwing away a promising career and will have to come to terms with it. I have also spent way too much time on this topic.

Seems to me that a person with incredible talent and a potentially multi-million dollar career throwing it all away just to get high isn't normal or rational behavior, so I do believe to some extent that there is a mental health issue involved. But I don't wanna playe Armchair Doctor here and start telling Gordon what he should or shouldn't do. Safe to say his NFL career is over but that doesn't mean his chance at a long and fulfilling life is over.

I’m not trying to absolve Gordon of blame here, but to say he’s just a dumbass is too superficial IMO.

I really don’t know how you can come to this conclusion. You honestly think an individual WANTS to watch his life/career/health spiral out of control to this extent after seeking help multiple times? I am not a doctor, but from someone that has their own demons I do not believe he is using mental health as an excuse for his substance abuse. Frankly, it is beyond me that someone legitimately thinks that.

Here you go since you're having trouble.

Pay attention to Gordan's quote at the end of the article.

Quote:

At no point in either of my posts did I say anything like this. As for seeking help, he went to rehab a few times but obviously that didn't work. Did he do this because he wanted to or because he had to to keep playing?

I also never said he was using it as an excuse for his substance abuse. I said he was using it to deflect/defuse ,or however you want to put it, the potential consequences coming his way. Defense attorneys for people on trial for murder charges try and plead insanity/claim mental health problems to avoid the death penalty or other serious charges all the time. I know that's an extreme example but it's similar to what I'm suggesting.

Did you ever think that maybe, just maybe, Josh Gordan (someone who has had multiple second chances) realizes that he has used up all of his extra lives so to speak and is using this to gain sympathy in hope of softening his punishment? Is that really far fetched? Based on his history, I dont think it is. Like I said, I could be wrong and will gladly admit it.

Buffalo gives Matt Barkley a two-year extension to backup Allen.

I was very pleased to see this happen today. He has fit in very well within the culture of our locker room. Allen and Barkley have become quite close from what I’ve read.

When was the last time the Browns were 10 point favorites!?

We just need the Eagles and Redskins to lose on Sunday. Go Vikings!

Excited to see the Jets new uni's in 2019. The ones they have now look dirty even when they're clean. And please dump the septic puke green! Cripes, I'm not even a Jets fan.

I have a co-worker who is absolutely convinced John is going to leave the NFL and join little bro up in Michigan. As absurd as that is, I'm going to have some fun rubbing this one in when I get back from vacation.

These comments seem awful opinionated for a non-Jets fan. Anyway, I'm obviously biased but even then, to me, they have one of the cleanest looking uniforms in the league (as long as the pickle pants are not worn at home with the green jerseys). The all white combo is classy AF.

I like the Jets away jerseys a lot. As for the Kelly green though, I definitely agree.

Also, I like John Harbaugh (his brother, on the other hand...). I don't think he's been the issue in Baltimore.

Seems premature to talk about extending him before tonight’s game. Still think if he misses the playoffs, he’s gone.

EDIT: this piece makes a good point — https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...nvitation/amp/
