Hire a coach you believe in, and give him the time required to go through a full rebuild. It takes time and patience.

Then why not keep Gase one more year until you're ready for the next guy? I don't understand hiring a coach to just be a lame duck for a year.

NFL Mock Draft 2019: Eagles trade Nick Foles to Raiders to move up to No. 4 overall

Quote:
Foles will turn 30 years old this month, but as we’ve seen from around the NFL, early 30s can be where a quarterback really hits his stride — Foles certainly seems to be. Tell me Jon Gruden wouldn’t pull the trigger on this deal to get a veteran, playoff-winning quarterback while also acquiring more draft picks for new GM Mike Mayock.

I read that last night. While I don’t think it would all go down that way, I could see Philly trading Foles(assuming that’s what he wants) and start to reduce that salary cap.
GM of the Year Howie is gonna really have to work some serious magic this offseason.

Just from reading articles, I think the problem is Ross, the owner. I would prefer if he just hired a capable GM and left that person hire the HC and that HC hire their assistants and so on. That process would lead to everyone being on the same page building the team and setting up the roster.

I can maybe understand Ross getting involved with the HC hiring, but he's even meddled with the hiring of assistants. I don't think you can run an NFL team the way you run a real estate business.

How can things function when the GM wants to keep players that a coach wants to get rid of? Or a coach with control of the roster tears down the work of the GM because he has a different philosophy. People argue, people leave, and the team never gets built properly.

The office of the Miami Dolphins sometimes sounds like a reality TV show with people forming alliances and having different philosophies. There hasn't been any real leadership in a long time.

Ross is 78 years old.

Yeah, Foles holds a lot of leverage. If he declines his end of the mutual option and the Eagles franchise him he could play hardball by refusing to sign the tag and taking up $25 million of cap space. The Eagles are not in great cap shape for next season and if Foles was counting for $25 million (approximately the number if he were tagged) they'd be around $17 million over the cap. They'd have to make substantial moves just to get under the cap by the start of the league year and couldn't make any significant signings in free agency. Foles and the Eagles have a good relationship so it seems more likely the team will agree to decline their end of the mutual option and let Foles go to the team of his choosing assuming he doesn't want to be their backup.

Wow I don't think even the raiders are this dumb, the Foles thing has already been proven to only work on the Eagles. With the lack of talent on that Raider team he would be a terrible fit imo.

There’s so many moving parts. In addition to all the points you covered, there is also the looming Wentz deal. Of course that doesn’t have to be done this offseason, but it might a good idea to do it...if possible. They would beat all the other teams as the price is gonna skyrocket if Mahomes becomes the first rookie QB to win a Championship. Also with Wentz he does have an injury history, so that is going to be a sticking point in negotiations.
Peters could retire. Graham will probably move on, as they can’t afford him. Long will probably retire. There are some other guys I’m forgetting off the top of my head, that can be quick cap fixes.
Offseason will be as big a nail biter as the regular season. Gheeesh, I need a drink!

DoH! Not sure why I was thinking this was his rookie season.
Well that seals it, KC wins it all this season!

Yeah, I don’t think his value will be that high on the open market.

Saw someone say steelers get $14.5 million cap credit due to lev bell.

So wouldnt that offset the possible $21m a.brown cap hit ??

Overthecap.com already gave back the Steelers Bell's credit in their projections, which has the Steelers at $27.7 million in cap space, and they'll create more space by restructuring or extending Roethlisberger. They don't have a lot of free agents this offseason, Ramon Foster is the only starter (not including Bell), so their cap situation is good enough that they could afford to trade Brown if it looks like the situation can't be fixed or they get a really good offer.

Per reports Freddie Kitchens has been hired as Browns coach and Vic Fangio has been hired as Broncos coach.

The longer this goes the more convinced I am that Hue Jackson is getting the Bengals job.
