Mike Mayock and Brad Nessler will be the new announcing team for the NFL Network's Thursday night games this season (assuming there is a season). It's been known that Mayock was joining the broadcast for weeks but Nessler is a surprise. It has been reported that Mayock had tested with Bob Papa, who had been the network's play-by-play man, as well as Gus Johnson. Nessler is expected to keep calling ABC/ESPN college football and basketball games.

Never heard him speak?!?!? The guy literally released hundreds of tapes of his rants over the past two decades. Everyone on the planet has heard that guy speak.

This might be the single worst use of Twitter ever.
He is not that old

You're right, there is freedom of speech. You can say just about whatever you want in the country. Thing is you have to deal with the reprecussions of what you say.

Yeah, he couldn't agree to a contract with CBS, so from the sounds of it he may be going to Fox for college football and potentially NFL games. I'd like to see him make a deal with Turner to keep calling NCAA tournament games.

Apparently the door hasn't closed on Gus Johnson returning to CBS. While his contract has expired CBS still has the right to match any offer Johnson receives. Apparently Johnson received an offer from Fox earlier this week for NFL and Pac-12 football work, and if he decides to accept the offer CBS will have one week to match the deal.

Personally, I rather have Gus at CBS since I prefer watching NFL on CBS than Fox.

Well of course you do, CBS is an AFC channel and you're an AFC fan. I prefer Fox then NBC then CBS, then the cesspool that is ESPN.

I like NBC too. It's just the commentators they have besides Aikman and his partner. The rest just seem a little boring to me.

I can't stand Joe Buck (Aikman's partner). He's never hid the fact that baseball is the sport he loves and shows absolutely no emotion. Listen to Buck's call on David Tyree's helmet catch from Super Bowl 42 (my least favorite play in NFL history). If you weren't watching the play you'd think it was just a standard catch, not one of the greatest catches in NFL history. I'm not saying an announcer has to go crazy like Gus Johnson, but at least act like you care about the sport you're calling.

YouTube - The best play on super bowl XLII

Oh gee! Yes I remember that play call during that game. At least if it was a different commentator. They would of sounded ecstatic. It seemed he wasn't sure if that pass was caught by David so he kind of stuttered.

Still shocked that NE wasn't crowned Champs that year when it was their time. To me, that's the biggest upset in NFL history.

Champion has dropped Rashard Mendenhall as an endorser over his Bin Laden-related tweets. Champion said they don't believe Mendenhall can"can appropriately represent Champion."

I'm looking forward to the first post that claims this is a 1st Amendment violation by Champion.

"Some people believe that the US government and its 9/11 Commission concealed or refused to investigate critical evidence that contradicts their official explanation of the September 11th attacks, saying there has been a cover-up. Others say that the 9/11 Commission was a bi-partisan group of honest and well-respected people and that there is no reason they would want to cover-up anything. Who are you more likely to agree with?"

Responses: 48% No Cover-up / 42% Cover-up / 10% Not sure
There are lots of unanswered questions about 911. Some ppl feel the need to have them answered while others believe everything they are told.

Ppl who believe everything they are told are often offended when their beliefs are challenged. Mendenhall's biggest mistake was not realizing this and making those comments at such a sensitive time.

Yeah, people really have no idea what right to free speech means. Darren Rovell of CNBC assumes Mendenhall will still get paid for the deal because the tweets likely don't constitute a firing "with cause."
