I read the GQ piece and it really does read like two separate statements that the writer mangled into sounding like Mayfield was trashing Jones. He says he was surprised the Giants took him so high, then separately when talking about why so many teams have whiffed on QBs in the draft, he says the thing about over-thinking things because the most important thing is winning.

Maybe Mayfield really does feel that way (and he wouldn't be alone), but this sounds like the media wanting a juicy soundbite and getting it however they can.

Near our booth, a SportsCenter segment about the New York Giants catches Mayfield's eye. “I cannot believe the Giants took Daniel Jones,” Mayfield says, about New York's much-maligned draft-day decision to spend the sixth pick on the quarterback from Duke (whose college record was a measly 17–19). “Blows my mind.”

I tell Mayfield that I'm mystified that so many supposedly expert quarterback scouts seem unable to predict what makes a good NFL quarterback.

“Some people overthink it,” Mayfield says. “That's where people go wrong. They forget you've gotta win.”

ODB is a toxic clown, and if Cleveland isn’t careful he will drag Baby Baker right down that road, and no team wants their QB going that route.
He would be wise to take a page from the Brady “tow the company line” playbook. Seems to have worked out quite well for Tom Terrific.

Edit: I just read the ESPN article and they literally have a time line of all Baby Baker’s trash talk!
That’s when you know there’s an issue.
Well if he/OBJ/Browns can win and back it up, that talking is just background noise, winning solves everything.
I think most of this is media hype (see imsounoriginal post below) just looking for a story from a guy that gives sound bites, right before the start of the season

I get that its disrespectful and petty but having no dog in the fight I just didn't care.
As a Niner fan and someone who grit my teeth at TO's antics back in the days, the part of me that appreciates sportsmanship hated when he celebrated on the star but the part of me that hated the Cowboys absolutely loved it!

Agreed. It would be one thing if he was just walking up to someone with a recorder and offering up unsolicited opinions but he's being asked questions and giving honest answers.
Again, I get why he irks people but I'm just not there with him so far.

Edit - AB practiced today with Gruden praising him. Apparently Gruden is good cop and Mayock is bad cop.

Antonio Brown in the news for something completely different.

In 2018, Brown hired a chef to cook for him and his buddies for three days at the Pro Bowl. The chef made fish one day, froze the head to be used the next day. When Brown and friends came across the frozen fish head, they thought it was some sort of mob threat and kicked the chef out. He wasn't allowed to gather any of his cooking materials or gear, and they never paid him. He's suing for $38,000.

5 years for 64 isn't too bad, it's just a hair under $13 million a season.

Baker in an Instagram comment:

Quote:
“This is not what I said . . . just so we’re clear,” Mayfield wrote. “I also said I was surprised I got drafted number one. Then was talking about the flaws in evaluating QBs. Where I brought up winning being important. Reporters and media will do anything to come up with a click bait story. Heard nothing but good things and wish nothing but the best for Daniel.”

The media is doing media things and taking things entirely out of context. Carry on, Baker, or should I say Baby Goat.

Don’t want your words twisted don’t say dumb things and limit your interviews.

Hope for Baby Bakers sake they win, because if they don’t the backlash will be epic. Look no further than Jalen Ramsey, lol. Haven’t heard a peep out of that guy in awhile.

It's actually a 7-year deal worth just under $70 million because they took the remaining year of his deal plus the restricted free agent tender he would have gotten in 2020 into account. That's not necessarily a discount but it's a good deal for both sides.

It is a good deal for both sides. It keeps one of our 3 best young defenders on the roster for years to come and it rewards Jaylon for all the work he put in to get back to this point after completely shredding his knee.

Pats' Patrick Chung indicted on felony cocaine charge

New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung has been indicted by grand jury on a charge of cocaine possession, the Belknap County (N.H.) Attorney's Office confirmed to NFL.com Thursday.

The incident occurred on June 25 in Meredith, New Hampshire where Chung has a residence.

The felony charge is the only one Chung is facing and no other individuals are involved, Belknap County Attorney's Office confirmed to NFL.com.

Chung's arraignment is set for Wednesday, August 28.

"We are aware of the reports regarding Patrick Chung," the Patriots said in a statement Thursday. "We will not be commenting while his judicial proceedings take place."

The league issued the following statement:

"We will monitor developments in the law enforcement matter."

Chung, who has been a key piece of the Patriots' defense on three Super Bowl championships, signed a one-year extension in April.

Ezekiel Elliott has reportedly been offered a contract by the Cowboys that would make him the NFL’s second highest-paid RB, per @WerderEdESPN.

Wouldn't put it past Zeke to wanna be the highest-paid RB, mainly because who knows how many games Gurley can even play this season (or ever) with that arthritis.

A Patriots player not following the rules? Shocking.
