I have my doubts but that seems to be the thinking.
really? curious where you’ve seen anything saying that testing will be available by september? you can say anything you want if it doesn’t have to be true.

in all honesty, it’s all going to be worse.

so something highly contagious that could kill you painfully is not enough to change anything about your behavior? i don’t even know what to say.

i’m not trying to be all doom and gloom. i’m bummed the nhl season is effectively over until who knows when. we were starting to get right towards the playoffs and we should be in the conference finals now. and really, if not for the stupid nba player, who knows what would have happened. but these are leagues that came to a decision that they would have shut down and really, they only care about money. especially why so much of the money they make is playoff revenue.

how are you going to games and not have a massive outbreak at each game every week? here’s the thing, these team owners... if they pooled together, they could come up with something. why aren’t they looking at it as an investment that will pay off? but hey, i’m not an economist. what do i know.

If you’re wondering whether to wear or not to wear, consider this. The day before yesterday, 21 people died of COVID-19 in Japan. In the United States, 2,129 died. Comparing overall death rates for the two countries offers an even starker point of comparison with total U.S. deaths now at a staggering 76,032 and Japan’s fatalities at 577. Japan’s population is about 38% of the U.S., but even adjusting for population, the Japanese death rate is a mere 2% of America’s.

This comes despite Japan having no lockdown, still-active subways, and many businesses that have remained open—reportedly including karaoke bars, although Japanese citizens and industries are practicing social distancing where they can. Nor have the Japanese broadly embraced contact tracing, a practice by which health authorities identify someone who has been infected and then attempt to identify everyone that person might have interacted with—and potentially infected. So how does Japan do it?

“One reason is that nearly everyone there is wearing a mask,” said De Kai, an American computer scientist with joint appointments at UC Berkeley’s International Computer Science Institute and at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
so literally, the stadium could just tell people you have to wear a mask and gloves (you could put it in the terms of conditions of buying the tickets) and it would be less risky than having one fourth of the people in the area. but no, why wouldn’t you want to make a lot of money when you could make way less?

Games will be fanless. NFL makes enough money on the TV deals.
Rigorous testing for: players, staff, tv peeps, etc will keep the show going.
But God forbid if someone becomes horribly ill, or even fatal. That could bring the whole house of cards tumbling down.

For outdoor events it's far less risky to have limited seating for fans than indoors. So don't think fanless games is a given.

How many fans are in the stands is likely to vary by state. The ones that don’t allow many fans I bet will be allowed to pump artificial noise.

That will be up to the individual Governors of each state. I don’t have a horse in the race as I can’t stand going to sporting events, but I would rather they go fanless. At least for this season. Sure it’s a lot of money lost, but the NFL season coincides with flu season and I would hate to see the country back to square one.
I think the next few months, May to August, as states start to gradually reopen will be telling.
I’m praying for the best. Another wave of mandatory stay-at-home would be devastating for the economy and it wouldn’t surprise if that round....should it happen....ignites wide scale rioting. Quite frankly I’m surprised, and thankful, that didn’t happen during these last two months. I just can’t help the feeling that the country is a tinderbox ready to explode. I guess one of the few benefits of this pandemic is a lot of crime percentages are down. #silverlining

Pressure only gets amplified with a Presidential election in the fall.

Not at all trying to make it political in this thread, but I know here in Pennsylvania lines are being drawn in the sand with an eye to November. We mere peasants are stuck in the cross hairs.

Lines have been drawn in the sand, in every state, since 2016.
I hope the NFL gets it going with no major hitches. They nailed the draft. I could watch it that way every year.

Dr. Fauci painting a grim picture as to NFL actually having a season this year, in PK interview. Yikes!

Yeah I still think it's 50% likely or less we actually get a season.

Ive been lucky since i love horse racing & thats been still going on even though alot of the bigger $$ races were either moved or cancelled.

& now churchill downs & supposedly santa anita are reopening this wk.

But no football would be absolutely crushing.
I couldnt even imagine what that would be like.
