Browns and Texans still are finalizing official trade compensation for Deshaun Watson, but it is expected to include three first-round picks, a third-round pick and potentially a fifth-round pick, league sources tell ESPN.

Five picks for Watson.

not defending either of these guys but what exactly were either of them convicted of to be punished by the league?

In Watson's case, he is not being criminally prosecuted though he has like 20 civil cases that will likely take years to either settle or go to trial. Depending on how that plays out he could still face league punishment.

The Browns luck here is they sign him for this absolutely insanity contract and within a year more allegations come out and he is suspended.

I do wonder if there is language in this contract about his masseuse habits.

I would hope so, but this is the Browns!

Also, I don't get him choosing this team that has nearly nothing offensive wise to work with, Chubb sure, but after that it is slim pickings and now with no draft capital, to either pick a rookie or make a trade.

I guess this is the eggs all in one basket approach to team building.

Did Ben have 22 cases against him? Roethlisberger was never charged with any crimes.

Cooper is a decent place to start.

I had been thinking about that too. Defense is still decent with Garrett as anchor. Offense added Cooper. I mean they aren't loaded but not terrible. Also have to consider the other options. The situations in ATL, NO and CAR weren't all that enticicing.

He had 2 cases against him, and he paid to make them go asway which is most likely what Watson has done and will be doing with 20+ people in line. Also, I believe the charges against Ben were far worse as in rape.

Watson isnt facing criminal charges either..... so whats your point? They both have done very sketchy things that they obviously are getting away with.

I can't speak for blacknapkins but I think the point would be - how can the league punish someone for something they weren't convicted of?
Just because you believe someone is getting away with something, in the eyes of the law they have done nothing wrong, which means the Players Association would not allow the league to punish someone for, what comes down to, allegations.

There was video evidence of ben forcing teens into hotel rooms, evidence that he destroyed.

The CBA gives the league power to suspend as they see fit.

If he destroyed the evidence, how can you be sure there WAS evidence?

Not saying Ben is a Saint, but the people looking for dirt on him never found any.

I am aware of that, however the players association also has the ability to, and 9/10 does, appeal any player suspensions

The appeals are difficult to have success with due to the language in the CBA giving the commissioner ultimate power. I have wondered for quite some time why the NFLPA doesn’t fight more in limiting that power, but it doesn’t seem to be a big sticking point for them when they negotiate the CBA in labor talks. I’m not taking a side here, just pointing out my observations.
