what a cluster. the online outrage machine seemed to have slowed after the first 24 hours. League could've let this go and, if challenged, contended they left it up to Robinson and thats what she ruled based on their sh-tty inconsistent rulings over the years. Suddenly they have principles? If they lose the appeal they're gonna look dumber than they already do. If any further games are added I say its in the 2-4 neighborhood

In other news, social media is abuzz that Flacco is outperforming Wilson in training camp. On top of that Saleh is talking up Flacco, saying he is a starting QB in this league.

Supposedly nfl would settle for 12 but watson said no before - maybe he will now though.

Not sure what you're reading, but the outrage hasn't slowed down in the least, the story was just overtaken by the LOLphins tampering fiasco the other day is all. The 3-day appeal period was still in effect and was appealed.

Yes, Flacco is playing well...with second string guys. If anything, they're talking him up so if a team happens to lose their starting QB closer to the season, Joe Douglas will end up trading him for a 2nd round pick.

Goodell will get is 12 games and fine, but NFLPA and Watson will sue and take it to Federal court. There Watson could win and keep it at 6 games. This just makes having the arbitrator worthless since it just means that if the league doesn’t get what it wants then it won’t listen to its ruling. I think Goodell expected Judge Robinson to do his bidding.

Also, if the 12 games and fine does stand in the end, that’s not enough. The league needs to punish the team for doing nothing and possibly enabling him more. In this case, Houston. If the team knew they could be fined and potentially lose first rounds picks, then I imagine they would have reign Watson in and prevented a lot of what, most likely, happened.

The league has had ample time to change policy to prevent future incidents also, but I don’t think they have done anything yet.

The year is 2028. Deshaun Watson has not stepped on an NFL field in 8 seasons. The Brown are 6-96 since the trade. Watson is filing a lawsuit against Roger Goodell. The Browns just announced an 8-year/$1.2B extension to keep Watson in Cleveland.

Twitter outrage lasted about 24 hrs since the suspension was announced. Started hot and then just flamed out. ESPN was all over it the day it was announced but generally moved on to MLB trade deadline, Dolphins, Vin Scully, etc.
I am sure specific writers or advocates stuck with it throughout but it was generally quiet until todays news and even now its not trending on Twitter
In any case Goodell gets to decide if he will hear the appeal or appoint a designee. This is insane. He has been stupidly inconsistent over the years and what was the whole point of Robinson initially hearing the case? If he suits to appeal further league punishment, I assume he can play during the appeal, which just makes all parties look even dumber.

The NFL has an excellent track record when things go to court.
Zeke lost , Brady lost etc so if it does go to court I would expect NFL to prevail.

Also the thinking is Watson wouldn't be allowed to play wks 1-6 since nflpa accepted that.
+ the fact this is under a diff policy than the other players that were allowed to play in the meantime.
But if his is still in court when wk7 comes around then it will have to be decided if he plays then.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will pick someone outside the league office to hear the Deshaun Watson appeal, as @ProFootballTalk said. Why? My opinion …

1) Gives the NFL a better shot at avoiding court.

2) Better maintains integrity of the process they negotiated with the PA.
