Profootballtalk is hearing that July 17 is the new target date for the announcement of a new labor deal.
PFT's Mike Florio admits that the date is subject to change -- and probably will. It's clear now that John Clayton was overly optimistic in predicting the deal's finalization by Friday. Most of the key issues could be solved by then, however.

Apparently Mark Sanchez has a lot of free time, his console died probably by playing too much...

James Harrison was interviewed by Men Journal, and had a number of targets:

On Roger Goodell:
“If that man was on fire and I had to piss to put him out, I wouldn’t do it,” Harrison said, per the Associated Press. “I hate him and will never respect him.”

Harrison also called Goodell a “crook” and a “devil” and a “puppet” and a “dictator.” Harrison also described Goodell with the use of what the AP calls an “anti-gay slur,” a clumsy articulation of what most people describe simply as a “gay slur.” (Unless there’s a new slur that is used to describe folks who don’t like gay people. . . . Maybe Harrison called Goodell “Michele Bachmann.”)

Harrison likewise said that, if the Steelers had won Super Bowl XLV, he would have whispered this particular sweet nothing in Goodell’s ear: “Why don’t you quit and do something else, like start your own league in flag football?”

But Goodell isn’t alone in feeling Harrison’s wrath. Harrison calls former Patriots standouts Tedy Bruschi and Rodney Harrison “clowns.” Harrison also claims that Texans linebacker Brian Cushing is “juiced out of his mind.”

On Ben Roethlisberger's performance in the Super Bowl:
“Hey, at least throw a pick on their side of the field instead of asking the D to bail you out again,” Harrison said. “Or hand the ball off and stop trying to act like Peyton Manning. You ain’t that and you know it, man; you just get paid like he does.”

Very foolish comments. Especially throwing his own teammates under the bus. Goodell will hit him back hard on this.

I don't think Goodell can do anything except continue to do what he has done in the past, drop the hammer on him with full force every time he does something against the rules on the field. Did he speak out of turn and whatnot? Sure but the most they can probably do about that is fine him, especially since there is currently no CBA, therefore players may not be punished for violating the PCP.

He might not be able to do anything now, but when Harrison does something remotely suspension-able on or off the field... Goodell will come down on him HARD!!! count on it....

No, it's already been made clear that bad behavior off the field, including making offensive remarks towards others within the league will be punished once the new CBA in done. At the very least Harrison will get a big fat fine for this. And I'm sure the Rooney's are very unhappy about this as well. They don't put up with stuff like this.

Really? Harrison can call it a career then, he's too dumb to STFU.

Ben Roethlisberger says he holds no ill will against James Harrison after the outside linebacker allegedly made disparaging remarks about the Steelers' quarterback in a Men's Journal interview.
Harrison claims the magazine writer "twisted many of his comments," and "it was not his intention to criticize the QB." According to ESPN's Merril Hoge, Roethlisberger is "taking Harrison at his word" and says their relationship is "fine." Rashard Mendenhall also forgave Harrison for his criticism of the running back's ball security, but did post on Twitter a link to his statistics. Mendenhall only fumbled twice all last season.

Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports that an agreement in principle on a new NFL Collective Bargaining deal is "likely to be completed" between this Friday and next Tuesday.
Each side issued optimistic statements early Wednesday, and Maske reports that players and owners are currently working in New York to put "finishing touches" on a labor deal. People familiar with the negotiations tell the Post that an "agreement in principle was possible in coming days," even by Friday. Both sides are scheduled to meet with mediator Arthur Boyland next Tuesday. An agreement must be approved by at least 24 of the 32 owners, and separately by the players. At this point, the only game that appears to be in serious danger is the Hall of Fame exhibition on August 7.

The NFL is saying that what happens off the field during the lockout is still subject to discipline, but the NFLPA is never going to agree to that, and it's not going to be a big enough issue to derail the CBA progress. In the end the league won't punish players for things that happened during the lockout, and will say they wanted to punish players but the NFLPA wouldn't agree to it.

The baseball all star game is becoming my least favorite all star game. I remember as a kid loving it in the 80's and even 90s but with interleague and Pud Selig screwing it up every way possible with winner getting homefield in World Series and players dropping out it has become a joke. Add to that the majority think baseball is boring and don't care about it and this is what you get. I like the NBA all star the best right now, I always have because they may play around for 3 quarters but when that 4th quarter comes they turn it on and are going for the win on both sides.

My favorite is definitely NBA all star game. They have the best overall weekend also with the 3 point contest, point guard challenge, dunk contest, and whatever else. The home run derby is nice but its always seemed a bit slow to me. The only time I remember being interested was when Josh Hamilton hit 28 in the first round, but he ended up losing so it didn't matter as much. The Pro Bowl is pretty awful with all the rules ruining the game, but it is my favorite sport and i'll take any opportunity to see the players I love. I want to see the Pro Bowl Skills Challenge come back. I would be a lot more interested then.

The Pro Bowl is absolute garbage. But that just goes to showing how big the NFL is. You could literally tape NFL players eating lunch or dropping a log and get a 5.0 TV rating or better.

The dome was re-inflated today at the Metrodome. They now need to figure out whether they will need to replace the turf, which was exposed to plenty of snow and rain and has been covered by 3 layers of plywood since the collapse. Regardless, they shouldn't have any problems having work completed by the Vikings first preseason game on August 27.

How are the plans for a new stadium going for the Vikings?
I imagine not very well considering the current state of their government.
