Holy crap. The Jets locker room saga is getting worse. (The Jets are probably the only non-playoff-bound team that could wrest so much attention away from the Wold Card games, Tim Tebow, etc.)

Their fourth string rookie QB who missed the entire season on IR -- former Crimson Tode QB Greg McElroy -- made some comments today (from the safety of his home state, no less) about how he's never been around so many selfish individuals, that the environment in the locker room is horrible, etc.

On Sportscenter tonight, approximately a dozen of ESPN's various talking heads absolutely ripped McElroy for his comments with more than one analyst describing his comments as "career ending." The general consensus was that his comments were probably accurate but that's besides the point because he has NO BUSINESS coming out and saying these things in the press now and that no one in the NFL is gonna want this kid on his team.

If McElroy wanted to say this stuff he could have easily leaked it to the media as an "anonymous source." Guys do that stuff every day. Hell, half of the stories I read with sports anymore are anonymous sources. Of course I don't think there's much doubt the kid is telling the truth. Just about any coach with a reputation for being a "player's coach" means one thing - lets the players do whatever they want with no discipline. This is why the Jets are the Jets and why teams like the Patriots, Packers and Steelers win all the Super Bowls. I'll take a hard ass coach over a "player's coach" for my team any day.

Deion Sanders said it best last year, Rex is the coach you want to have a one year fling with, but over the course of a career you go with Belichick.

Cam is not the best RB on the team. If anything he takes carries away from 2 guys who could be 1000 yard rushers every year sharing touches. Easier for a qb with the ability to run to gain yards when the opposing defense doesnt know if he's going to run or pass. Hand the ball off to a RB and the defense is 99.9% sure he's only going to run with it. Not saying Cam isnt a good runner, but to say he's a better RB than Williams and Stewart is ridiculous.

Source: Packers exec to be Raiders GM

Quote:
The Oakland Raiders will hire Green Bay Packers director of football operations Reggie McKenzie as their next general manager, according to a league source.

The two sides have been engaged in talks over the past week and are still ironing the details of McKenzie's role and his powers within the organization, the source said.

McKenzie has had the support of former Raiders executives Ron Wolf, Ken Herock and John Madden, who were assisting the team in its search for a new general manager.

"Reggie's a tremendous evaluator," Wolf told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Wednesday. "He can tell you who can play and who can't play. That's what it's all about. Some can write reports but can't tell you who can play. Whatever that is, he has that. He has a feel."
Finally a GM, words cant express how happy I am, especially getting a person coming from a first class organization like the Green Bay Packers...

Great start to our off season...

The nfl sent out a cool pdf with the explanations of the new OT rules.

An interesting stategy is to onside kick.

It seems like an unrecovered onside kick does not count as a possession for the kicking team so the other team would still need a td on that drive to win as a fg wouldnt be enough in that case.

+ you just need a fg to win if u recover since the other team not recovering counts as a possession for them.

Now the drawback obviously is not recovering & giving the other team the ball in great field position.

But surprise onside kicks i think are recovered about 40% of the time....would be a cool gamble.

Yeah, have you been watching any of the college football bowl games this year? Sheesh.

You'd think Sean Payton would be gutsy enough to try this. Probably Mike Smith too (just substitute "gutsy" for "foolhardy").

Aaron Rodgers easily edged Drew Brees to be the Associated Press' first-team All-Pro quarterback, winning by a 47 1/2 to 2 1/2-vote margin.
Lions WR Calvin Johnson and Vikings RE Jared Allen were the top vote getters, each coming within one vote of being unanimous All-Pros. The Rodgers vs. Brees voting could provide a hint as to the AP's leanings for NFL MVP. Patrick Peterson was the only rookie voted All-Pro, making it as a returner. LeSean McCoy and Maurice Jones-Drew were the first-team running backs, Rob Gronkowski the tight end, and Wes Welker was the wideout opposite Megatron.

Isn't it an oxymoron to "easily edge" someone?

(never mind that it's also a split infinitive as I just wrote it )

Josh McDaniels could go back to NE

Pick up a deep threat via free agency (Vincent Jackson, Desean Jackson) won't happen but one can dream
It could be 2007 again

Steve Spagnuolo could go back to Philly

Brady Quinn has been getting "roughly half the first-team reps in practice this week," a source tells ProFootballTalk.com.
Over the final three regular season games, Tebow tossed four interceptions against one touchdown and lost three fumbles. The Broncos went 0-3. It appears the Broncos are now preparing a backup plan in case Tebow faceplants against the Steelers on Sunday. We already know that the organization hasn't been in Tebow's corner since jump street.

The only way Denver wins is if Big Ben's injury regressed over the week. But if Denver can keep it close, who knows what could happen in the fourth quarter.

In the NFL playoffs anything is possible. But I honestly believe Pittsburgh wins by ten. Denver's defense will keep them in it, but Tebow won't be able to make the throws to close the gap.
